The Allman Betts Band on Tour

When Devon Allman and Duane Betts come together to carry the torch that their fathers — Gregg and Dickey, respectively — bore for so many years, they do it their own way. Sure, they bring classic Allman Brothers Band tunes like "Ain't Wastin' Time No More," "Jessica," "Midnight Rider" and "Blue Sky" to the stage with a sound and spirit that will make their fathers' fans misty. But this is no tribute act. In addition to breathing new life into the old material, they offer up their own tunes, influenced by old-school Southern rock but bearing an undeniably original feel. And along the way they take songs by other artists, from John Lee Hooker to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and put their own roots-rocking stamp on them. Between Devon's pipes and Duane's guitar, old spirits are conjured in an Allman Betts Band concert, but new fires are stoked as well.

The Allman Betts Band in Concert

When Gregg Allman passed away in 2017, the loss ended any chance for the Allman Brothers Band to ever take the stage again. But two men found a way to move the spirit of the ABB into a new era. These musicians are an undeniable part of the band's legacy even though they were never actually members of the band. Gregg's son Devon Allman joined forces with Duane Betts, son of legendary Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts, to form The Allman Betts Band. Devon's soulful voice and Duane's fiery guitar work represent the next chapter in a Southern rock story that started with their parents back in Georgia in the late 1960s. There's even a third Allman Brothers Band offspring in the Allman Betts Band — Berry Oakley Jr., whose dad was the former's founding bassist. Those who mourn the Allman Brothers Band will find cause to rejoice in The Allman Betts Band, as not just a rekindling of old memories but a powerful path forward.

    A bit disappointed

    by Bruce on 7/13/23

The LA guitarist was great as was the bass player… the sound system was mediocre and considering their pedigree I wanted much, much more Allman Brothers.

    Allman Betts review

by Good band, fair venue on 7/13/23

Band was good, mix of Allman Bro covers and band originals. I would see them again for sure. The venue was at the local high school and the sound was great but there were no refreshments not even water for sale.

    Would have been great!!

by Lil Sam on 12/14/21Mars Music Hall - Huntsville

The event would have been one of the best. First time we had front row seats to anything, unfortunately we came down with COVID the week before and we're deathly sick for about 5 weeks. Sorry we missed it but will see them again sometime.

    Great Venue and Concert

by Lisa G on 10/4/21Mars Music Hall - Huntsville

Mars Music Hall is a great venue and we have enjoyed every visit so far. This was the first time we were upstairs at the Rail. The seats were great and we will definitely consider that for another concert in the future.

    Allman Betts Band is growing

by Scott on 10/3/21Mars Music Hall - Huntsville

Mars Music Hall is an intimate setting. The band was in good form. The mix was good. The openers were good. The only real downside is that I now know I need hearing protection at concerts...from too many concerts when I was young. Bottom line, the band is a strong rock act, with a tip of the hat to ABB. P.S. Hopefully you won't have the (extremely drunk) guy behind you whistling loudly and yelling for ABB songs.

    Allman Betts concert

by Liz on 10/3/21Mars Music Hall - Huntsville

This was our first visit to the Mars Music Hall and first time seeing Allman Betts Band. We loved the venue. It was nice that it served adult beverages. We didn't know that going in. The opening bands were both great and of course, The Allman Betts Band was more than worth the price of admission! The crowd participation was good. We really enjoyed the whole evening!

They brought down the house in Knoxville!

by Howdy on 10/2/21Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

Best rock concert I've seen in years! Not up to date on the band I seen the name and thought what the hell. As I learned that it was the kids of the Allman Brothers I was even more intrigued and impressed. The familiar southern rock and blues style of the Allman brothers mixed with a more modern funk, and soul they are putting together an incredible sound. It was cool to see a show with warm up bands that brings forth an anticipation of the headliners, what a show. I will be back!

    Too many guest artists

by Gadget on 10/2/21Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

The Allman Betts Band is carrying the torch of jam bands from the '70's and that of their father's, the Allman Brothers Band. However, they are their own band, with their own music. Music that pays homage to their heritage by incorporating passages of old as intros to new. This truly is a band of musicians who love what they do. However, as a jam band, Allman Betts would be better off as a single billing. They need the time to really flex their musicianship on stage, to do what you can sense they are wanting to do, but are pulling back a little due to time constraints. With special guests stretching the time out, the audience misses out. But, the opposite is, you do get to hear new acts who themselves are worthy. I get it. But an act like ABB needs to stand alone.
