About

ST GERMAIN IN CONCERT:

For the past two decades electronic producer St Germain has gotten audiences moving with his soulful grooves and unique fusion of house music and nu jazz. All that experience has made him a master behind the decks, and his beats grow deeper with every passing year. The four-on-the-floor house beat remains the foundation of his sound, but it’s complemented by sophisticated and tasteful jazz instrumentation, highlighting polyrhythms and bluesy vocal samples. Taking the stage with a full band of seasoned jazz and world-music veterans, St Germain makes sure to keep the music lively and spirited wherever he appears on tour, pleasing all varieties of music lovers with his smooth and eclectic productions.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Producer Ludovic Navarre first rose to prominence in the French house scene of the early ‘90s, releasing singles under names like Subsystem, Modus Vivendi, and Deepside. He truly broke through when he combined the accessibility of house music with the complexity of jazz under his most enduring project St Germain. His first album under the moniker, 1995’s Boulevard, established him as one of the most forward-thinking musicians on the European electronica scene. He then became an international sensation with the release of his 2000 album Tourist, which sold 4 million copies and led to an acclaimed tour where he was accompanied by a full band of jazz musicians jamming over his house grooves. With his reputation as a house luminary firmly cemented, St Germain continued to release occasional singles and dabble in side projects throughout the rest of the ‘00s. He returned in 2015 with a more Afrocentric sound for his self-titled fourth album -- his first full-length release in over 15 years. A seasoned performer well-versed in getting audiences moving, St Germain continues to blend body-rocking grooves with fresh jazz sounds on tour.

    What a disappointment

    by vicbee2 on 4/25/16Mezzanine - San Francisco

I've been listening to St Germain for at least 15 years but had never seen them live so I was really excited when I learned they were playing in the City and told all my friends. I knew they were going to play more traditional African but didn't mind because I like African musics. I had never been to the Mezzanine and had no expectations... Wow! what a disappointment!!! Nothing wrong with the Mezzanine except it's a big bar with a small stage, absolutely the wrong venue for a 8 members band. The sound was so bad that we left after the 3 song, barely 30 mn into the concert. We stood upstairs where the view of the stage and the crowd below was good, but the bass was so saturated that all other instruments were barely audible. By the 3rd song we returned downstairs where the bass was less painful but with the musicians cramped on such as small space the sound was muffled and truly horrendous so we left. Poor choice of venue, poor sound set up.

st.Germain blew the roof off the Mezzanine!

by Vati on 4/19/16Mezzanine - San Francisco

The venue is just right.Great bartenders, the staff were very helpful getting my wife and I a stool and table for our "handicap" needs as it is a standing room only venue.I can't say enough that everything A to Z was OUTSTANDING. St Germain was friggin GREAT. I saw the legendary Bimbos show about 15 yrs ago or so.Damn it was awesome. As soon as the ride cymbal hit 3 notes of SURE THING the electricity level went off the charts. The new songs were even better live.I think the band even had a good time. The 2 Africian hand drum players were off and flyin..'Anything off Tourist really zipped.A note to Ludvic Navarre"Please don't stay away so long!!.Your next gig I will be there"My wife was bouncing in her seat ALL NIGHT!!!.Its hell to get old ,St Germain is the best ticket ,and I am talkin' STRAIGHT PAPER,BABY!!!!!

    Amazing Show

by dopersoper on 4/19/16Mezzanine - San Francisco

Never seen St Germain but the show was amazing. 7 musicians playing live on stage with Ludovic Navarre. I wasn't sure how it would sound live since its such a heavily produced sound, but it was incredible.

It seemed more a showcase of jam sessions for each musician instead of a cohesive performance. Didn't feel like a single song was played ... More like the recorded Germain track was played in the back softly to simple qualify as St. Germain having played. I loved the jamming and talents but missed seeing the forest not just the trees. And I should say I would recommend the show to a friend but not w/o a qualifier ... great jam dance opportunity but disjointed made it hard to connect w/ the rest of the audience.

waiting bored with the whales songs....

by SlickChicknyc on 4/7/16House of Blues Boston - Boston

What? that's right, the HOBlues Boston St Germain (4/4/16) show, no warm up bands, and we waited ..waited... waited... for the main event. Which would of been ok except...... they had actual whale songs and water surf sounds (like spas use). for like 2 hrs (seemed like 8)...... zzzzzzzzzzzzz, should of had an espresso to wake me up. I spoke to an employee to change the "music" to pep us up....... says it's St Germains pre-show sounds. I was already so bored by the time St germain got on i was kind of pissed. And then they started with a slow song...... the crowd really needed a jolt to wake us up. There were 4 good old songs.... the rest not so great. Did I mention had to go in an ice storm to get there.... to make matters worse. I would of stayed home if I new I wouldn't be out of $100 dollars. And also only less than 500 showed up.

    St Germain

by BernieNora on 4/5/16Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

I've loved St. Germain ever since my Parisian friend introduced me to them in 2002. I've listened to them throughout all my travels and have many memories associated to the beat of St Germain... The show was amazing. Great musicians and the atmosphere was very lively. It was interesting to see that St Germain himself struck me as a very shy person who likes to stay in the background amidst all the chaos. All is all, I thoroughly enjoyed the show. One disappointment was that we actually went to the Hammerstein ballroom where the concert was suppose to take place but the venue was changed last minute and I wasn't aware. We had to then trek down to the village in order to catch the show at Webster Hall. This was my only disappointment. Ticketmaster should have sent me an email or had a message alert for me when I printed up the tickets the day prior.

the first part never showed up the concert was only 90 minutes long the musicians came to do a job, not to have a good time with the audience disappointing
