About

Andrew McManus Presents is pleased to announce that legendary Scottish rock band Simple Minds are heading to Australia. They will play an exclusive show in Sydney's luxurious Lyric Theatre in Star City on Thursday, February 25th, before heading to Melbourne for their one off performance at the Melbourne Grand Prix Sunday, March 28th. The band will then continue onto New Zealand again for one exclusive concert at The Civic, Auckland on Tuesday 30 March.

Simple Minds rose to worldwide popularity in the mid 80s to early 90s securing a string of successful hit singles, the best known being their number one worldwide hit Don't You (Forget About Me) plus hit singles Waterfront, Promised You a Miracle, Alive and Kicking and Belfast Child. They've experienced many milestones in their 30-year career, including performing at Live Aid and headlining the Freedomfest concerts for the then-imprisoned Nelson Mandela.

Simple Minds Sydney performance will be with support from popular late 80's & 90's Australian band 1927.  Formed in Melbourne in 1987 with James Barton on drums, Bill Frost on bass guitar, his brother Garry Frost on guitar and keyboards, and Eric Weideman on vocals, guitar and keyboards, their major hit songs were "If I Could", "Compulsory Hero" and "That's When I Think of You" from their multi-platinum #1 album ...ish.  In 2009, 1927 celebrated their 20th Anniversary with a national tour which has continued into 2010 with various shows nationally.

    80's Flashback Well Done

by kcj4Tx on 11/8/18Revention Music Center - Houston

Jim and Charlie still have it. Great show, new mixed with old seamlessly. Kerr seemed to be having a good time, singing, bouncing, reminiscing. He didn't remember EVERY show they've played here, but he did mention one of my personal faves, 1984 at the Tower Theater on Westheimer. This show was every bit as good as I remember that one to be. Lights, sound and venue staff, all great. Good times, I'm looking forward to their next show here.

Simple Minds in a Tour de Force

by MurfAtHome on 11/6/18The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

Over the course of nearly 2 and 1/2 hours of music comprised of 2 full sets from the massive Simple Minds catalogue, and with no filler, Jim Kerr and company held the audience in rapt attention and with few in attendance utilizing the portable chairs on the main floor, choosing to dance in place. Opening with a cut off the new album Walk Between Worlds before tearing into the classics including Waterfront, Promised You A Miracle, Up On The Catwalk, and a rare performance of Midnight Walking from the overlooked 2014 release Big Music, the band were on fire and other than the soaked Jim Kerr showed no worse for the wear, even with the breakneck pace of this nearly 2 month tour of the US. It may have been more than a decade or two since this band has toured the US but it's clear neither the US audiences nor Simple Minds have forgotten about you.

    Always a Solid!

by Toxicgrin on 11/2/18Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

We've seen Simple Minds a few times in the States and once in Northumberland, UK (which was amazing), but having a chance to have a meet n greet with the band (as down to earth as you've imagined) and see them perform at the Orpheum in Vancouver was out of this world! The intimate space and the unforgettable crowd, who NEVER SAT DOWN for the entire show made for a unique and brilliant energy that was off the hook! Meeting people from literally across the globe who were all here to see this band that are so dear to us was also a special treat. Hope the band knows how much they are loved! Can't wait to catch the boys (and their awesome crew) again soon!

    A Trip Back Through Time!

    by ZeldaZonk13 on 11/1/18Moore Theatre - Seattle

Wow, Simple Minds have been around for a long time and have a vast catalog of material. This particular tour covered a span of the last 40 years and treated listeners to newer songs from this year's album release "Walk Between Worlds" as well as a mixture of classic hits like "Sanctify", All the Things She Said", "Alive and Kicking" and of course "Don't You Forget About Me". Although there are some newer members in the band, Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill are the two founding members who have kept the band going stroung all these years. The show was comprised of two sets with an encore, making for a little over two hours. If you get the chance, make sure you check them out.
