SHUCKED has transformed from a rootsy, “corn-fed, corn-bred” American musical to a nine-time Tony-nominated Broadway production. Along with a score written by the country duo of singer Brandy Clark and Grammy-winning songwriter Shane McAnally, SHUCKED rounds out its acclaimed crew with a show book by Tony winner Robert Horn (Tootsie) and three-time Tony-winning director Jack O’Brien. The unapologetically, agriculturally-minded musical debuted at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre in 2023 and follows “an unlikely hero, unscrupulous con man and a battle for the heart and soil of a small town.” The original cast was led by Caroline Innerbichler, John Behlmann, Kevin Cahoon and Alex Newell, the latter of whom became one of the first non-binary performers to win a Tony after they were awarded Best Featured Actor in a Musical in 2023. Newell also leads the show’s standout number, “Independently Owned.” An album by the original Broadway cast was released in May 2023.
