Early into the concert, a woman yelled out “play ‘Take Care’!” - a Sasami single, arguably her best-known song - and Sasami responded with a scream and a “No! Not tonight! We’ll take care of you, alright!”
What followed was an anti-Sasami show, a complete rebuild of her sound. In the noise and heavy metal that followed, Sasami still showed through. She, brilliant as she is, wasn’t going to be boxed in by her debut album. Her forthcoming album could have been an easy sequel to her 2019 LP but instead she flew forward, chopping up her sound and evolving into the thorned beastess she always was. This is a true expansion of an artist and over 40 minutes, no encore, the audience was taught a lesson about expectations. Fantastic and unforgettable.
