SAM AMIDON IN CONCERT:

Singer-songwriter Sam Amidon has spent the past decade building a loyal following with his evocative, heart-on-sleeve brand of indie folk. His lush arrangements incorporate strings and horns, but the real stars of Amidon’s intimate compositions are his soulful voice and world-wise lyrics. In concert he cuts a humble figure, conjuring up pastoral landscapes and heartrending love stories with nothing more than his guitar and heartfelt vocals. From the gentle acoustic strumming of “Saro” to the laid-back shuffle of “Wedding Dress”, Amidon always impresses with his minimal yet rich songwriting and no-frills live performances. 

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Sam Amidon was born in Brattleboro, VT to folk artists Peter and Mary Alice Amidon. He made his debut in 2001 with Solo Fiddle, a self-released collection of traditional Irish fiddle instrumentals. After that he spent the next five years honing his songwriting skills, and in 2007 he made his full-length album debut with But This Chicken Proved False Hearted. His impressive songwriting caught the attention of Icelandic producer Valgeir Sigurosson, who produced Amidon’s next two albums -- 2008’s All Is Well and 2010’s I See the Sign. After marrying musician Beth Orton and having a child in 2011, Amidon returned to the studio to record 2013’s Bright Sunny South. The album was a hit with critics for its expanded instrumentation and fresh take on traditional folk favorites, and Amidon continued to rake in praise on tour in support of the release. In 2014 Amidon released his fifth album Lily-O, and he continues to captivate ticket buyers every time he brings his finely crafted songs on tour.
