About

RAYLAND BAXTER IN CONCERT:

Alt-country crooner Rayland Baxter came into his own in 2015 with his sophomore album Imaginary Man, a finely crafted collection that earned him widespread critical acclaim and an opening slot on The Lumineers' 2016 tour. Baxter blends country and indie rock to powerful effect, and his knack for storytelling recalls folk greats like Bob Dylan and Arlo Guthrie. In concert he performs favorites like "Mr. Rodriguez" and "Olivia" with a relaxed confidence, soulfully singing while gently plucking his guitar. As Baxter paints vivid pictures with his evocative lyrics, the rest of the band fills the worlds he creates with lush harmonies and subtle instrumentation. Rayland Baxter has plenty of stories to tell about his journey in life, and fans are more than happy to come along for the ride at his stellar live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Rayland Baxter grew up in Nashville bathing in the lap steel guitar tones of his father Bucky Baxter, a multi-instrumentalist who has worked with folk heroes like Bob Dylan and Ryan Adams. The younger Baxter received his first guitar as a gift when he was in third grade, but didn't really take playing seriously until he moved to Colorado in his early twenties and started playing open mic nights. He released the EP Miscalculation of Song in 2010, and in 2012 he made his full-length debut with Feathers & Fishhooks. The album was well-received, drawing him out for extensive touring alongside acts like The Civil War and Grace Potter & The Nocturnals. After returning to the studio Baxter's rise continued in 2015 with his sophomore album Imaginary Man, a critical masterstroke that earned praise from outlets like NPR and Interview Magazine and led to a slot on The Lumineers' 2016 tour.

    Rayland is the man!

by DB on 11/21/23Jefferson Theater - Charlottesville

Rayland and his band know how to put on a great show. The audience gets an A+ for being quiet at the right times and being rowdy at the right times. It's been awesome to see Rayland over the years and hope for many more shows to come.

Best show I’ve ever been to.

by Jp on 11/11/231884 Lounge - Memphis

Heard Rayland at the 1884 lounge about 4 years ago for the first time. It was good then and was even better this time. Very small venue. There was only 4 people on stage which was way better than 9. Probably around 100 people in attendance. Rayland was very personal with the audience. There was a few times during the show that I felt as though I was just hanging out with a few friends. I will never forget what a great show it was. I would go to more concerts if they were like this one.

Rayland Baxter is thoughtful and talented. He gave a balanced blend of upbeat songs, soulful ballads, and stony jams - punctuated by playful stage banter. Favorite concert of the year!

    Rayland Baxter was fantastic!

by MiaDawn217 on 8/6/18Delmar Hall - Saint Louis

From start to finish each song was performed with emotion. Rayland talked about how/when he wrote some of the songs. The set without the band was beautiful. You could feel the emotions from him flowing to the audience.

If Rayland Baxter is performing hours from your home, don't hesitate to take a road trip. Rayland is very engaging, humble and entertaining. I like the way he changes up his tunes to keep them fresh. I am hoping that I can see him again soon.

RayLand Baxter Wows Packed House at Mercury Lounge

by SjSeaboard on 1/31/16Mercury Lounge - New York

First saw Rayland Baxter perform not long after the realease of his first album, Feathers and Fishhooks, in 2012. I was immediately impressed by his carefree style, and talent as a singer songwrighter. His newest release, Imaginary Man, Rayland continues to impress with his creative songwrighting abilities. On January 28th I had the pleasure of experiencing RayLand and his band play to a sold out crowd at the Mercury Lounge in NYC. If you have the opportunity to see in them in your neck of the woods do not let it go by. You will not be disappointed.
