    The musicans ultimate cover band

by BobbyC on 12/4/23The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

I have been following since 1973 so I wasn't sure what to expect from Rael. They didn't disapoint for a minute. Amazing musicians who performed the classics flawlessly.

Great venue. Good band. Bad vocals.

by Jim C on 12/4/23The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

Having previously seen Genesis tribute band Musical Box, I was looking forward to seeing Rael in the cozy confines of the Vogel. The experience was decidedly less than satisfying though, as the stellar performance of the guitarist, bassist, keyboardist & drummer were torpedoed by a singer not up to the challenge of emulating the vocal gymnastics of Peter Gabriel. To be fair, he had a few good moments, and it's clear he loves the material. And no one could fault him for the energy he brought to the stage. But... for the most part, listening to him trying to force his voice to go places it simply couldn't reach was almost literally painful. The climax of the epic "Supper's Ready"was especially cringe-worthy. Fortunately, there were significantly fewer people left to cringe by that point, as a fair number fled the premises during intermission. (The theater, not sold out to begin with, appeared half-empty by the end.) Maybe he's usually brilliant, and Friday was just "one of those nights". It happens. The other musicians on stage were terrific. If they were to come back with a different vocalist, I would probably go see them again. I give the four of them 5 stars. (There was also a female vocalist who performed on the Peter Gabriel solo material in the 2nd half of the concert, but I honestly couldn't tell you how she sounded. By then I was trying to ignore the vocals. Sadly, it didn't work.) But with the current singer, you couldn't pay me to sit through another show. He gets 1 star. If you're hungry for Genesis music, especially from the early Peter Gabriel era, go see Musical Box. Avoid this band like the Giant Hogweed.

Very good take on Genesis / Gabriel

by MG on 10/4/22The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

They did a nice job of presenting Gabriel era Genesis and solo Gabriel. Besides typical song selections, they also played song I didn't expect (The Knife, Horizons, Rhythm of the Heat). They don't play exactly note for note but they do a good job of recreating a live show. The sound mixing was a little off. The bass was too high and the keyboards too low. The keyboards got washed out too often.

    Vintage PG & Genesis

by ShoreGuy on 2/15/22The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

although can't ever beat the original, decent musicianship and performance by better than average tribute band. despite a couple garbled lyrics, the lead vocalist gave it his all including the kooky costumes. And no better place on the shore for great sound and decent beer selection.

    Excellent

by Bill on 2/15/22The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

Great band - the keys player is especially good, and the rest of the band is solid as well. The singer is animated on stage playing "Peter," and his antics sometimes cause his phrasing to suffer, but that's a relatively minor quibble. Would definitely see them again!

    Left early

by Genesis Fan on 12/7/21Tally Ho Theater - Leesburg

Venue was nice- band was very good. Lead “Singer” was straight out of a middle school production. Spent way too much time channeling his inner Peter Gabriel. It’s a shame-he took away from the other band members talent. First time in over 200 shows I have left early- glad I only spent $25.

    Rael at The Tralf

by Yips on 4/17/18Tralf - Buffalo

This is the third time I have seen Rael, the second at The Tralf. The Tralf is an awesome place to relax and see a live show. Lots of room, table service, class act all the way. Rael always puts on a good show and a lot of it too. They play a few out of the standard Genesis cover band line up as well. I will see them every time they play here.
