Pittsburgh Steelers History
The fifth-oldest franchise in the NFL, the Steelers were founded on July 8, 1933, by Arthur Joseph Rooney. One of the great pioneers of the sports world, Art Rooney, or "The Chief," is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Originally named the Pittsburgh Pirates, they were a member of the Eastern Division of the 10-team NFL. The Steelers have won eight conference championships, 24 division championships and six Super Bowl championships. They became the first NFL team to win six Super Bowl championships when they defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL, and are tied with the New England Patriots for the NFL team with the most Super Bowl wins. Many legendary players have worn the Steelers jersey over the years, including Terry Bradshaw, Jerome Bettis, Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Franco Harris, and Troy Polamalu, among others.
With the hiring of Lowell Perry in 1957, the Steelers became the first NFL team to hire a Black assistant coach. They were also the first team to have a Black Super Bowl MVP when Franco Harris won the honor in 1957, and they were the first to hire a Black Coordinator with Tony Dungy in 1984, and the first female full-time athletic trainer with Ariko Iso in 2002.

Very cool being able to check out the lockers, and locker room. Got some great pics and talked with Kenny Picket!
It was GREAT! Everyone was so nice! The Stadium is unbelievable! We even got to walk through the Steelers locker room! Totally incredible day!
We had a blast! We got to go down on the field and expose the locker room. So cool to see all the behind the scenes.
My family had such a great time. So many photo ops of things you can't often do! Photos with the 6-burgh trophies, ON the 50 yard line at Heinz, and the weather was utterly perfect! A few disappointments was the locker room, such a long line and the locker room was nearly empty wish that had been more full. Also the line for the "prize wheel" was long for the 4 hours we were there so we didn't do that. The staff was amazing though and the vendors were great. All and all worth every penny and a great day for a family of Steelers fans!
Beautiful drive from CLE to Burgh. Browns Baby and me keeping warm at Rivers Casino. Eating Nathan's chili dogs. Then meeting friends tailgating before the game. Heinz Field was amazing. BigBen 7 knocks out Brownies. Bummer!! Maybe next year:(
I attended my first games this season and loved every game I attended. The environment in Pittsburgh on game day is unmatched. #HereWeGo
We had good seats it was a good game and I was glad that we got to be there for that one.
We were delighted to attend 'Ben's Last Ride' and see a W for the Steelers at Heinz Field last Monday night. Given the pandemic there was a lot of paperwork - and negative tests - to fly to family in Philadelphia and then drive to Pittsburgh. Thankfully we also got to see the Penguins win on Sunday, a double hat-trick too ! The ticketmaster ticketing process for both ice hockey and football games were very easy and in my iPhone Wallet so couldn't lose them either ! Heinz Field staff were very pleasant and helpful and the ticket reader worked very smoothly for us to access the stadium. Nearly all 65,500 fans stayed until the end to see Ben's farewell so the queue for the nearby T train was long - but all agreed we had witnessed one of the great nights at Heinz Field - and a dream come true for this long distance fan from Ireland ! We'll be back !
Sending BEN abundant gratitude and love, in Steeler Nation fashion, for his last Heinz Field game made for a once-in-a life time experience that fans will always cherish! I live Downtown Pittsburgh and easily walk to the stadium for events, yet I met folks from all over the the US and abroad. Terrible towels will--and do--travel... And Ticketmaster provided an easy experience from purchase to gate entry. Oh what a night!
That Was an amazing game. It was bens last home game and the Steelers played absolutely amazing!!
From tickets or the game everything couldn’t have gone better. Ticket’s where very easy to get and Steelers winning the browns for ben’s last game was also exciting; what made it better than it already was that it was my first game.
From ticket purchase to attending the game everything and everyone was great. Wife and daughters first Steelers game in Da Burgh! Was a great experience
Very first game at Heinz Field/Steelers game! I thought I knew what I was going to expect heading into the game, but the fans absolutely blew my away. It was the best day of my life! There is no doubt I will make this a tradition and go to a game every year. The energy the fans have makes it even better. To be in the same place with 60,000+ people that share the same desire as you do is truly amazing. I am so glad I got to experience it! #HereWeGo
Love heinz field, Go to see them at least once every year. Sometime i can squeeze a 2nd one in. Love the black and gold. Win or lose still a blast to go. Whether its a morning game or a late game. Its great to start tailgating in the morning and make adU if it. Steelers Nation
My husband and I live in Wisconsin. I am a Packer fan, he's been a Steeler's fan nearly all his life. This was our first trip to Heinz Field. What an experience! The people, the atmosphere, the game- it was all amazing! So many traveled from far away to come to Heinz Field. I was shocked. I highly recommend seeing a game here at least once. My husband and I will definitely be returning.
This was most certainly well worth my trip! Coming from NM & watching them beat the Ravens, oh boy! I had the time of my life. My birthday gift to myself to boot. I truly LOVED EVERYTHING about it!!! Thank you Steel City for your hospitality. Until next time. Keep on Rockin 🤟😝🤟
Was nervous going into enemy territory, but the staff and 99% of fans were great! Stadium was very nice. Awesome seats! If only we could have pulled out that win. Would encourage other to check out this stadium for sure!
lifelong Steelers fan finally making a trip to Heinz Field - a little disappointed in the stadium, thank goodness there wasn't a fire because after the game the ramps were packed with guests and at a standstill. Fans that have season tickets ruin the experience for non season ticket holders, I would recommend going to see the Steelers on the road before going out of your way to attend Heinz Field. Fans constantly bickering at each other and causing a raucous.
This was our first game in the stadium and in life, we had an incredible time, the place is beautiful, the food is very good. It was a unique and recommended experience.
