Pittsburgh Steelers History

The fifth-oldest franchise in the NFL, the Steelers were founded on July 8, 1933, by Arthur Joseph Rooney. One of the great pioneers of the sports world, Art Rooney, or "The Chief," is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Originally named the Pittsburgh Pirates, they were a member of the Eastern Division of the 10-team NFL. The Steelers have won eight conference championships, 24 division championships and six Super Bowl championships. They became the first NFL team to win six Super Bowl championships when they defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL, and are tied with the New England Patriots for the NFL team with the most Super Bowl wins. Many legendary players have worn the Steelers jersey over the years, including Terry Bradshaw, Jerome Bettis, Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Franco Harris, and Troy Polamalu, among others.

With the hiring of Lowell Perry in 1957, the Steelers became the first NFL team to hire a Black assistant coach. They were also the first team to have a Black Super Bowl MVP when Franco Harris won the honor in 1957, and they were the first to hire a Black Coordinator with Tony Dungy in 1984, and the first female full-time athletic trainer with Ariko Iso in 2002.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium

Attendance at the 68,400-capacity Acrisure Stadium has been sold out for almost every home game since its inauguration in 2001. The team has played a total of 14 playoff games at the stadium, winning eight. Situated along the Ohio River, the stadium was designed with the city's steel production history in mind, which led to the inclusion of 12,000 tons of steel into construction.

    Steelers “Road Warriors”

    by MRRRR5 on 5/12/23

Now that the 2023 schedule is released, I plan to attend several “away” games; possibly versus the Raiders (since i never been to Vegas lol), the Texans, the Rams, and the Colts. Most of the games the Steelers play “away” with an indoor stadium are definitely strong considerations as it’s more enjoyable than watching them in the cold, wet weather conditions! Here we go!

    Expensive

    by Steelerbus36 on 5/10/23

Have been to a few games in the past. Fan since 1972. Just too expensive to go. It's not just football. All pro sports. Family of 4 is over $1000 per game (football). And that is just tickets. It really is too bad it has come to taking out a loan.

I am so excited and can’t wait to get my tickets to see my Steelers play the Raiders. I have never been to a football game and have loved the Steelers forever. This is finally a chance to have them visit locally. I don’t know what dates but am anxiously awaiting the schedule release to jump on them! 🖤💛

Been a diehard Steeler since '76, age 7, from Los Angeles. Haven't ever been to a Steelers game. However, that will definitely change this upcoming season of '23 when my beloved Steelers will be visiting Vegas to play the Raiders. Currently living in Vegas so l can't wait til then. #BleedBlack/Gold 🖤💛

Great Event Unless You Wanted Concessions...

    by DP1024 on 12/14/22Acrisure Stadium - Pittsburgh

Great overall event, friendly workers, just a fun experience. However, the time to wait at the concession stands is at an all-time high, get something to eat or drink and miss at least half a quarter. I'm guessing this a work shortage but for the money fans pay for the tickets, it just shouldn't take that long.

    Disappointed

    by Fosteenia@gmail.com on 12/14/22Acrisure Stadium - Pittsburgh

I purchased Steeler upper deck fan club package. They included the seats and an official tailgate party food and drinks included. When we went to the stadium I was told we needed a separate ticket for the tailgate, no one at the event knew of the upper deck party. I couldn’t reach anyone at Ticketmaster. Very disappointing!!

    Game vs New Orleans Saints

    by Steelergirl0707 on 11/17/22Acrisure Stadium - Pittsburgh

The venue is absolutely beautiful! It was wall to wall Steeler fans anticipating the return of TJ Watt! We love our Steelers and HEINZ FIELD. I refuse to call it the current name. Never a disappointment, except when Steelers lose.

    Ok

by HB on 11/16/22Acrisure Stadium - Pittsburgh

Areas to warm up would have been amazing on the cold windy day, also having Escalators to go up to the highest levels and closing those areas in with heaters or AC like in the Eagles stadium which was setup much nicer and cleaner. I was disappointed my favorite home teams stadium wasn’t as nice as Philadelphia as Philadelphia’s. The food and drink options in The Steelers stadium are pitiful and expensive. Spent $15 dollars for hot chocolate water and weak coffee. They had no Gluten-free options so my son couldn’t eat due to his intolerance/allergy. Do better Pittsburgh I bragged the city up to my son who’s never been there and he was disappointed to say the least. But we at least won! Go Steelers black and gold for life 💛🖤💛🖤
