About

Phil Collins in Concert

Born in West London in 1951, Phil Collins started playing drums at the age of five. His musical career began in earnest when he joined Genesis as a drummer in 1970, later becoming the group's lead vocalist in 1975 when Peter Gabriel departed. In 1981, he launched his solo career, releasing a string of pop albums that catapulted him to the immense profile he enjoys today. Phil Collins has released eight studio albums over the course of his solo career, along with three compilations, two soundtracks and more than forty singles. Of Collins' many releases, his third studio album, No Jacket Required, secured his greatest acclaim. It features notable tracks like "Sussudio" and "One More Night," both of which have received countless pop-culture references throughout the years. Collins is one of the legends of the 1970s and 1980s, a member of the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame, Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, Modern Drummer Hall Of Fame and a musical influence to later musicians like Mike Portnoy, Taylor Hawkins, Nick D'Virgilio and many others.

Former Genesis member Phil Collins has achieved a level of solo success few others can claim. Collins' tour dates, such as his 2017 Not Dead Yet Tour, have seen him travel the United Kingdom. Other tours, like his 1997 The Trip Into The Light Of The World Tour, his 1985 No Jacket Required Tour, and 1983 Hello, I Must Be Going Tour, have taken him throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania. As a solo act, Phil Collins is praised for his brilliant Pop songwriting, laced with elements from the other genres in which he's fluent like jazz, rock and fusion. His strong vocals, intricate drum parts and generous use of 1980s-style keyboard synths add to the richness of his sound. In concert, audiences can marvel as Collins sits majestically, belting out hits while his large band provides ample accompaniment. Collins' son Nicholas is often present, dazzling crowds with drumming just as impressive as his father's. Phil Collins' music has garnered impressive numbers. His albums have sold more than 150 million units worldwide. He's been nominated for more than 20 Grammy Awards. He's won 7 Grammys, along with various American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, Brit Awards (and more) as he continues to record and perform across the globe.

In 2015, Collins remastered his eight solo albums with previously unreleased material and came out of retirement. In 2017, he started The Not Dead Yet Tour, named after his autobiography released in 2016. After many tour legs around the world, Collins is coming back to the U.S. for 15 dates.

    The most depressing experience ever!

by Anmari on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

I have been a huge fan of Phil Collins since my teenage years. I was extremely excited about this concert; however, the experience was far from my expectations. I was expecting a fun, exciting performance, but watching Phil Collins with a cane and sitting through the concert was far from entertaining. The acoustics of the venue was also quite poor. I feel cheated by high prices for an even which should have been postponed/canceled.

    Phil Collins Exp

by Moni on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

The staff at chase center was outstanding. They were so helpful and friendly. And that made the concert even better. The chase center is a perfect venue to watch concerts. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience for a couple who has not been to a concert in 30 years.

by Nachobizness on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

Phil Collins put on an awesome show and played many great hits! All around great show, great performance! Chase Center is a great venue but needs to work on better transportation for the public.

    Truly not dead yet!

    by W. S. on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

It was a bummer not to see Phil drumming, but his son really stepped up. The band he pulled together was fantastic, and he brought so much energy to his performance.

    Great concert, great venue.

by Tom on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

Phil Collins had some back injuries and surgery, but he is still on his feet and not dead yet! In fact his voice is still great, his band is great and it is non-stop hits! What a great concert! Ya gotta hand it to him to do an arena tour in his condition.

Very good show by talented performer

by Andrew N on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

While well past his prime and showing the effects of a 50+ yr career (much of it behind a drum kit). Phil Collins continues to provide good vocals... the back-up band/ singers were great, and introduction of his young son on drums was a highlight! If you’re a fan of 80s music, you’ll enjoy this show!

    One of the best

by Rick J on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

What a great concert this was! Even though Phil has some health issues, he gave it his all and performed for nearly two hours. Great songs, great selection, great energy. I've been a fan of his for nearly 40 years, and was so happy to finally be able to see him live. And it was worth the wait. I hope he stays active and healthy for many years to come. What a Class Act.

    Great show, crappy venue

by Millennial&NOTentitled on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

The show was great. Phil and his band were amazing. Exactly what I expected. The Chase Center was not so great. There aren’t enough bathrooms in my opinion. They also sell bottled drinks which they then pour into paper cups and won’t let you have the bottle. They don’t even have lids for the cups! And the seats are tiny! I’m an average sized adult and felt so cramped! For a brand new arena and for the price I paid, I expected more.

    Disappointing

    by C. C. on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

As much as I love the music of Phil Collins was how disappointing this concert was. His voice is gone and although I feel badly for him having had spinal surgery, I did not pay all that money to watch him sit on a bar stool and sing off key. His son, who played the drums, was amazing though. As for the Chase Center, that was a huge disappointment as well. All the streets were blocked off so we couldn't easily get to the garage we'd prepaid $50 for. My mother is handicapped and the handicap seats were impossible for her to sit in. All in all, it was a huge money grab.

    Phil Collins at Chase

    by S. G. on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

Concert was great. My only negative was I took the Larkspur ferry which going home was not very smooth. The ferry uses the temporary dock at pier 481/2 and going home there were two lines. One for Alameda and one for Larkspur. The Alameda boat was at the dock when we got there but instead of boarding it left and the Larkspur boat docked. We got on 45 minutes after the concert but I imagen that the Alameda boat didn't leave until at least an hour after the concert. I will have to consider if I will take the boat when I go to a Warrior game.

    Great evening in the City

by Starchild on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

I have to say that Phil was AWESOME. The music, the sound quality was great. The Chase Center is beautiful and a wonderful venue, but the effort needed to get there is a bit too much. The location of the Chase Center is in a very tight or busy area of town. Parking is very, very limited and the only other way to get there is public transit, Uber, Lyft, etc... I live in the East Bay and it's too much of a hassle to fight all these obstacles to attend an event here, especially on a week night. As beautiful as the Chase Center is, the sitting is cramped. I'm 5'4" and my knees were aching because the seating are too close. The cup holders aren't adjustable and any fans with any kind of a weight problem he/she is in for a very uncomfortable evening. Also the fact of 20,000 fans trying to depart at the same time in a very limited choice of travel away from the event, is a nightmare in the making. I must say that the only way I'd attend another event there, it would have to be on a Friday night or weekend.

Great show at a great venue!

    by G. C. on 10/20/19Chase Center - San Francisco

He performed all the oldies but goodies and did not fail to meet expectations. He may not be able to move around as much but his show is full of energy and excitement. Kudos to his 18-year-old son who plays drums for his band. This was definitely in the top 10 of all concerts I have ever been to. And The CHASE Center was amazing! Great acoustics and a beautiful new venue.
