About

Ozzy Osbourne in Concert

Ozzy Osbourne is one of the most well-known figures in the history of metal, but The Prince of Darkness did plenty more than bite the heads off of doves and bats and sing for Black Sabbath. Born in Birmingham, England, into a working-class family in 1948, Osbourne became interested in musical theater at an early age, performing in numerous school productions. Entranced by The Beatles, Osbourne decided he would go into music after finishing school, but was sidetracked by a series of odd jobs — construction labor, plumbing, and working as a car factory horn-tuner — as well as a brief stint in prison for burglarizing a clothing store. Eventually a free man, he was asked to join Rare Breed, a band started by bassist Geezer Butler. The band changed their name shortly after. Its new name was Black Sabbath.

Obsessed with the occult, Butler and Osbourne, alongside guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward, took rock music on a violent left turn, infusing it with doomy riffs, macabre lyrics, and wild freak-outs. Their 1970 self-titled debut — famously hated by ‘Rolling Stone' critic Lester Bangs — shook pop music with a force that still cannot truly be measured; follow-up ‘Paranoid,' with masterful metal tracks "War Pigs," "Iron Man," and of course, "Paranoid," cemented them as the most important metal band in the world. After releasing an incredible run of albums throughout the ‘70s with Sabbath, though, Osbourne left briefly to work on a solo project that would eventually become ‘Blizzard of Ozz'; when trying to rejoin Sabbath a few months later, Osbourne was met with waves of derision and violence from the other band members. Osbourne was asked to leave, and he immediately released ‘Blizzard of Ozz' to massive acclaim: Monumental single "Crazy Train" charted at No. 9 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock list, and the album went 4x Platinum. He continued the streak with a number of lauded solo albums through the ‘80s.

In the ‘90s, Ozzy would create Ozzfest, one of the decade's most vital metal festivals. Eventually he did rejoin Black Sabbath (in 2011), working on new album ‘13,' released in 2013. It slayed the charts, including the U.S. Billboard 200. The band played their final shows in 2016. Catch Ozzy's second farewell tour, No More Tours 2, which runs until mid-October in the U.S. before heading to Europe.

    Ozzy RULES!!!

by CaptCaveman on 10/5/18The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion presented by Huntsman - Woodlands

The last time I saw Ozzy live was during his 1st two LP’s on the “Blizzard Of Oz” & “Diary Of A Madman” tours with guitarist Randy Rhoads. At that time I had floor seats on the 3rd row. Seeing Ozzy again present day here in 2018 took me back to the old days. He put on a FANTASTIC show!! It just took me back. I really enjoyed it. Guitarist Zakk Wylde Was just AWESOME!!! I liked how Zakk came out into the crowd and walked around as he jammed out. Especially when he walked up to a young handicapped kid in a wheelchair and played directly in front of him. That put a smile on everyone’s face. Bassist Blasko was cool as well. After all these decades, Ozzy still never fails to put on a GREAT performance. Still crazy as ever, Ozzy pulled out a fire hose and drenched the crowd with water. Later Ozzy threw buckets of water on the crowd. The variety of hit favorite songs was off the hook! He even played some Black Sabbath. Sure would like to be able to attend another Ozzy show again soon. Hopefully he will return.

    Ozzy!!!

by sheROCKIE on 10/5/18Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center - Noblesville

Absolutely wonderful show! A MUST SEE!!!!! Stone Sour and especially Ozzy & Zack Wilda were great performers and crowd pleasers between songs. Wilde’s many guitar solos were incredible and inspiring for me to get my guitar out and slap some new strings on it! It was incredible timing with “Bark at the Moon” because the clouds parted to reveal an entrancing full, fall moon! I still cannot believe Ozzy is about to turn 70!!! He was so energetic with his musical performance and cheering the crowd on! This was an amazingly great show and I am so glad and lucky to be there in the lawn with the real party!!!

Ozzy sounded great. Zakk Wylde's guitar playing was stellar as always. However the acoustics at Blossom Music Center need to be improved.

Nice Way to End the Summer

by NYS1 on 10/4/18Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh

Would have been 5 stars if the acoustics were even remotely acceptable. Stone Sour rocked it. Ozzy was Ozzy. Some complained about him being limited to a small area of the stage, but he needs a teleprompter, so you take what you can get. I'd rather have him being able to sing the words he otherwise would not remember (even if we still can't understand them)--so, I endorse the teleprompter. Zakk Wylde was the highlight. Freaking awesome!!!
