    Disappointed

by Chelle on 11/18/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

I struggled with the new version of this musical, I agree with the message even and still disappointed. First and foremost the sound was bad, there were 3 floor mics and that was it. Not what you expect when you pay $82 a ticket. It was the laziest musical and the blackout scenes were confusing and boring. I tried to think the sound maybe was a choice and dig deeper to a meaning. However, if I make an excuse for that then that is exactly what it is an excuse. Does Gammage supply the sound I wonder? Or does it travel with the show? It was so disappointing. We left at intermission and it was not worth the money spent. I bought tickets a year prior and money doesn’t come easy especially now.

    Don't go

    by J. B. on 11/8/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

A great play destroyed with a frustrated message. I went hoping to see the old classic Oklahoma. It wasn't even close. Acting was marginal and the theme was so twisted you would not recognize the original. Many left at the intermission, I wish I had. I thought it just may getting better in the second half but it got worse.

    Terrible!!!!!

by The worst show we have ever seen! on 10/31/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

I took my elderly mother for her birthday and it was a waste of time and money. Half the theater left at intermission. We walked out after we returned from intermission when a dancer came out in a DREAM BABY DREAM t-shirt and basically underwear and proceeded to gyrate all around the stage. I'm still trying to reconcile what that had to do with Oklahoma in the early 1900's. The backdrop and set never changed, which was a farmhouse on a tan screen and a bunch of cheap picnic tables. Save your money!

Not for me didn't care for the modern take on this play.

    by V. F. on 10/25/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

I guess I wasn't expecting something so classic to be something so unworthy of a purchase of two tickets. As the play went on the more disappointed I became to the point that my husband and I left early. Wish I never saw this.

Not Rodgers & Hammerstein's origianl Oklahoma!

    by G. R. on 10/24/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

The variation was dark and dull. I didn't enjoy it at all and I'm pretty sure I wasn't alone since the couples on each side of us didn't even return after the intermission. I was the only event I've been to at Gammage that didn't get a standing ovation. When the performers sang as an ensemble together they were great. Band was very good as well. The rest I could have done without. I gave it a one star rating because there is no option for 1/2 star

    Not My Oklahoma!

by Jam on 10/24/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

This revised version of the beloved Rogers and Hammerstein's, Oklahoma, was disgraceful to say the least. The acting was average, the singing off key, the choreography was amateurish and the sets looked like they were bought at Home Depot! The musical can stand on its own merit. The final scene with blood all over the main actors was disgusting. It was all I could do to not rise out of my seat and yell, "Enough. We've had it." Many patrons left at the intermission and all opinions were the same. Whoever wrote this is crazy. I want my money back. This play belongs in a very small theater with a small audience who enjoys off Broadway plays. It certainly doesn't belong on a Broadway Tour. I'm actually disappointed in Gammage Leadership.

    Would not recommend

by Jess on 10/24/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

$200 I can’t get back. Very disappointing. Do your research on the shows before buying. Good to know. It’s not like gammage to disappoint so heavily.

    Very Disappointed

by Musical Fan on 10/24/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

I wish I had read the negative reviews of this production before wasting $200 and three hours of time. I took my wife for our anniversary. We enjoy classic musicals and Oklahoma is one of our all-time favorites. It was as if the producers/directors sought to create a non-humorous parody of the Rodgers & Hammerstein's version. The set design was lacking and the music was awful. Many patrons left before intermission, but we hung in there, hoping for it to get better. Sadly, the first two scenes after intermission with the Jimi Hendrix like interpretation of the songs while one of the characters did an interpretive dance solo around the stage convinced us it was time to go. Next time when we see "modern interpretation" in the show description we will look for better entertainment options.

Prepare yourself for something original! Not the show you think but the show that will make you think and talk about! Awesome and original!

    Oklahoma, ouch

by Paradise on 10/24/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

Was so excited to go to this event and so disappointed when leaving. First off, everyone in the production has a fantastic voice and the musicians were top notch. The presentation and story line was so far from anything resembling the original, and casting was way out of whack, characters that did not visually sync with the story made the presentation tough to sit through. I gave it two stars because of the actors and musicians did not deserve a one, they tried their best with a bad rework of the production.
