Nora Knox Tickets

Nora Knox is a New York-based musician and songwriter. She grew up in Putnam County, playing the clarinet at school and Guitar Hero at home, and was constantly drawn toward the possibilities music seemed to hold. She found her footing playing drums in various DIY punk projects (Bushies, Mommy Sorry) while based at SUNY Purchase. During this time, she built the foundation for what would become her self-titled project, recording demos and performing in dorms and basements. After graduating, she found a new home in Queens, picking up where she left off by releasing her “Polar Plunging” EP and performing with her live band across the city with a new set of songs and an endless enthusiasm for the power of live music.Whether alone with her guitar, or backed by her full band, Nora Knox performs her music under an air of intimacy, enveloping the listener into her world of catchy loops and heightened emotions. Centered around her acoustic guitar, each song is dynamic and distinct, displaying a range of styles from upbeat jangle-pop tunes to eerie crawls of slow moving parts. They transport you, through tone and lyrical imagery, to different dramatic locations — the top of a moving elevator, wrecked at sea, the center of a crowd or natural disaster. She sings with urgency, her eyes closed as she belts her energetic highs that fill the room. At some point, they become more than songs. It’s pure queer expression, defiance against normative ways of thinking. Asking, “how well do any of us really know ourselves?” It’s an experience that sticks with you like a confession of wrongdoing, or a revealed secret. It’s intimate.
