NYC based Ecuadorian Indie/ NU-Disco artist, Roger Cabrera, is better known by his stage name, NIÑØ. NIÑØ's style mixes different aspects of Disco, Indie, Electronic and Latin music accompanied by grooving synthesizers and catchy melodies in English and Spanish. Currently with 4 singles out, an another one on the way, NIÑØ is quickly making a name for himself in the NYC music scene.
Roger grew up in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. At an early age he showed interest in music, thanks to his mother who loves Latin music and his father who is a loyal fan of disco. The project arises from the need to create music, but without having the necessary tools or knowledge to create it. “Since “peladito” everyone has told me: niño don’t do that, niño behave, niño that is just a hobby. But I've always done what I wanted and in one way or another that mindset has influenced my compositions, doing what I want and I think it sounds good."
At 13, Roger started playing drums and later was part of different music project in Guayaquil. At the age of 18 he moved to New York and was part of a punk band originally from Brooklyn between 2015 and 2018. In November 2018, Roger left the band, and began to pave the way and his journey as a solo artist, learning to play different instruments and produce his own tracks, creating and recreating sounds reminiscing of his younger memories. Thus giving life to NIÑØ in the summer of 2020.
