I've seen the show twice in London and this performance was as good!!!
The cast of this show spend the first two scenes making you connect with them as genuine, wholesome figures. They then very quickly bare their teeth as exciting storytellers who draw the audience in to experience the terror of the Drablow property. With whit, tasteful special effects, and passionate performers, this is a show worth catching.
This was one of the best shows I’ve seen - two actors act out ones mans manuscript of a story of his life. So amazing. I was completely sucked in, to the story and the scary. The actors were fantastic. I don’t want to give anything away. But if it should come back to town, everyone should see it.
I can’t say enough good about this play!! How can 2 men and a specter do such an amazing job! Highly recommend seeing it!
Well written play, fabulous performances, imaginatively staged.
In the beginning, I wondered if I was at the right play. Just two actors, minimal props. The woman in black appeared briefly after 45 minutes. Didn’t stay for the second half
Good acting. Boring story. Not scary Long time to set up boring story.
Excellent acting and production and a compelling story.
The Royal George theater was a perfect venue for this captivating show. The set design and creative use of the space was first-rate, and the acting performances were nearly flawless! We were so impressed and would highly recommend this show/cast to all lovers of theater and good ghost stories.
I had heard this was terrifying, but the first 45 minutes were so slow and repetitive (I clocked it) I began to doubt. Oh, I was so wrong! The first time “The Woman in Black” shows up, everyone gasped with shock. Creepy! Why did I sit in the first row!? And why do they always open the locked door!? Like a true gothic tale, the creep factor intensified and never let up. The two actors were outstanding. This is true theater: two men, two chairs and a wicker basket, plus the scrim with a minimal set behind it. It could have been an old radio show, it was so easy to visualize their story-telling. Thank you for the great escape from winter and politics—I was light years away from Chicago.
