ACC Men's Basketball Tournament
Every March, the Atlantic Coast Conference gives basketball fans a taste of the madness to come. The ACC Men's Basketball Tournament features some of the best teams in college hoops, and the winner earns both an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and official recognition as the best team in the conference. The ACC Tournament is held in different arenas along the eastern seaboard each year.
ACC Men's Basketball Tournament History
The Atlantic Coast Conference was formed in 1953, when seven schools broke away from the Southern Conference as the SoCon was trying to de-emphasize football. Former SoCon member Virginia joined soon thereafter, and since then the ACC has grown to 15 members, including non-football member Notre Dame. The ACC Tournament began in the conference's inaugural season in 1954, with North Carolina State winning their first of 10 tournaments by defeating Wake Forest 82-80 at Raleigh's Reynolds Coliseum. The presence of the state of North Carolina looms large, with the first 22 tournaments taking place in the Tar Heel State, and 54 out of 69 in total, and with the state's four schools UNC, Duke, NC State and Wake Forest combining for 54 tournament victories.
Some of the greatest names in college basketball have starred in the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament, with UNC's Bob McAdoo and James Worthy, Maryland's Len Bias and Wake Forest's Tim Duncan all winning its MVP award. Seven teams that have won the ACC tournament have gone on to win the Final Four recently the 2017 UNC Tar Heels took this honor. In 2019, Duke won their 21st tournament championship with help from tourney MVP Zion Williamson, as they beat Florida State 73-63 in the final at Charlotte's Spectrum Center. Duke went on to reclaim the championship once again in 2023.
Great time at the ACC Tournament in downtown DC. Transferred tickets no problem. Wanna go to Greensboro for Spring Break!
Great time was had by all! Very organized. There was a very large crowd waiting for the doors to open. The staff moved the crowd through pretty fast once the doors opened!
We had a great time both at semi and final. Greensboro coliseum is a great site for the tournament. Really no bad seats. There is a lot of tournament history and experience there. Well done Greensboro!
My son and Husband are huge Duke fans, and going to see the tournament this year was a bucket list for them. The tournament was well organized. Greensboro Coliseum is best venue that we have been to. The staff is friendly and knowlegable. There isn't a bad seat in building. The food is good. The parking lot is clean, well lit and clearly marked. The staff and the local police get you in and out of parking lot with speed and accuracy. I can't stress how great it is to go to Greensboro Coliseum.
Game was fun, but I give the team at the Collesium a lot of credit: I had the best experience parking I’ve ever had at an event. I fully expected 45 minutes to get out of the lot and I think it took us 45 seconds (literally)! I couldn’t believe it. I would definitely attend another event here because of that.
The ACC Tournament was a first class event and we had a blast Thursday. We would recommend to anyone!
As a child growing up near the coliseum I always looked forward to the fan fest each year, we attended with our class from school! This year I was able to bring my sons to fan fest and 2 games. I hate to see the tournament leave greensboro but glad I got share the experience the ACC tournament has created in greensboro for generations! My boys has the best time and my oldest experienced Duke winning the championship something he will never forget! I also want to mention the staff at fan fest and coliseum were awesome!
Greensboro knows how to put on an ACC BBALL TOURNEY
Seats r uncomfortable as ever.. need to get new and better seats
Great Tournament tho UNC lost so it was horrible. Painful.
