New York Jets History

Beginning play at the Polo Ground in 1960 as The Titans of New York, the franchise changed their name to the Jets in 1963 before adopting Shea Stadium as their home in 1964. In 1968, the Jets became the first AFL representative to defeat the NFL in the Super Bowl as the team beat the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, an improbable victory that was made possible in part by their quarterback, "Broadway" Joe Namath.

The Jets made a return to the playoffs in the ’80s, and in 1982 made an appearance in the AFC Championship game. Between 2001 and 2010, the Jets made the playoffs six times.

New York Jets at MetLife Stadium

The Jets play their home games at MetLife Stadium, an open-air, multi-purpose stadium located at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey. MetLife is also home to the New York Giants, which makes it one of only two stadiums to be shared by two NFL teams.

MetLife Stadium opened in 2010 and upon its construction, which cost $1.6 billion, was the most expensive stadiums to be built in the U.S. MetLife Stadium has a capacity of 82,500 and has hosted such events as Super Bowl XLVII, Copa America Centenario Final, and the 2021 Army-Navy Game. MetLife will also be one of the sites for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Jets’ biggest rivals are the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, and Buffalo Bills.

The New York Jets have reached the Super Bowl championship once, beating the Colts 16-7 in Super Bowl III in 1969 — the first championship game for which the NFL officially coined the "Super Bowl" name.

The New York Jets were originally named the Titans of New York, but the franchise was sold in 1963 and renamed the Jets. They were renamed the Jets since the team would play near LaGuardia Airport, and because Jets rhymed with the New York Mets, with whom they’d share Shea Stadium.

    Great overall customer experience

by Mark on 12/27/23MetLife Stadium - East Rutherford

As an international traveller, the whole experience was amazing. Starting with the ease of transport to the game, to well marked out signs once we arrived. Throughout our game, staff were particularly friendly and helpful always willing to assist. The pre-game tailgate activation was great fun and overall vibe was great. One piece of advice to international travellers, make sure you pack your passport if you would like to have a drink at the venue.

Traffic was bad the Jets were worse

by Dave D on 11/29/23MetLife Stadium - East Rutherford

Left early, but not early enough. The parking lot we were in was about a half mile away from the stadium. The Jets blew a momentum shift at the end of the first half. But the food was good and the service reasonably quick.

THEY DON'T THINK ABOUT THE PEDESTRIAN

by Karen on 10/9/23MetLife Stadium - East Rutherford

I am a tourist and I decided to stay in a hotel near the stadium, but to be able to return there is no bridge to cross, there are no paths for pedestrians, cars always have priority, that hindered our return, where it took us more than 2 hours to Being able to order an Uber that exceeds the costs, exaggerated.
