About

Neha Kakkar on Tour

The diminutive Neha Kakkar is in the stratosphere as one of the most sought-after playback singers in Bollywood. But she didn't start out with popular music. She began performing when she was just 4 years old, singing bhajans at religious events. It was here that Kakkar developed her love for (and comfort with) live performance.

To this day, she acknowledges that she comes alive onstage — a trait that has earned her the nickname the "Indian Shakira." The comparisons are apt: Though she stands at just 4-foot-9, Kakkar's sunny personality and uninhibited dance moves, backed by her powerhouse voice, make her a compelling presence onstage and off. In 2019, she toured the U.S. with fellow singer Sonu Nigam.

Neha Kakkar Background

Neha Kakkar was born into a musical family in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, in 1988. Her older sister is Sonu Kakkar, the successful Bollywood playback singer, and her brother Tony Kakkar is a noted musical director.

The family moved to Delhi when she was young, and she attended school there until 11th form, when she was offered a spot on the second season of Indian Idol in 2006. Kakkar was given a choice: finish her final exams or join the TV competition. She chose the show and never returned to school.

Though she was eliminated from the competition, Kakkar had tasted her future. From then on, it was just a matter of time. In 2008, she released her debut album, Neha – The Rock Star. The swagger of that early release revealed the singer's winning persona, a striking study in contrasts that is equal parts fearless and playful: Even when she's singing her own praises, she does it with a dimpled smile.

That sparkling personality has served her well on YouTube, where she built a following on the strength of her "selfie videos" and her 2012 viral hit "SRK Anthem," a fan's homage to the ubiquitous Bollywood film star Shah Rukh Khan.

It was the Bollywood hits that truly cemented her reputation, whether it was 2011's "Second Hand Jawani" for the film Cocktail, "Manali Trance" from The Shaukeens, or "Sunny Sunny" from Yaariyan. Kakkar eventually found her way back to Indian Idol, where she served as a judge in the show's 10th season in 2014. She has sung for some of the greatest actresses in the business and continues to rack up both hits and fans.

    Great fun

We enjoyed the show and we had fun. Only concern on how people are trashing the hall with food and drinks

Could not get even a glimpse of Neha Kakkar

by Anita on 7/5/22Paramount Fine Foods Centre - Mississauga

Neha is such a talented and versatile singer. She absolutely killed the show. We loved listening to her and thoroughly entertained but the screens were not on so we could not see her beautiful expressions at all. This was very poor planning and bad event management. It’s sad that Inspite of her doing a great job, the show ratings are low. Very dissatisfied and disappointed

So so. Was better a couple years back

by D on 6/28/22UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

We are in our early 50s (younger at heart). However, this concert felt short. We saw Neha a couple of years back, and we was better then. Second half was primarily upbeat numbers which felt like we were at a disco with a DJ, and didn’t feel like live singing. We do enjoy upbeat concerts like Mika/Sukhi paaji.. but Neha has still ways to go. We would prefer Sonu Nigam melodies (mixed with interactive comedy). But I wish Neha the best. She is young and still trying to learn how to entertain overseas audiences. I am certain she will get there soon.

    Really?

    by C. N. on 6/28/22

Okay show….but started an hour late, people from the back bum rushed to the front, she left the stage and didn’t announce a farewell or anything. Can you say thank you to the fans for going to see you??

    Great performance.

    by C. N. on 6/28/22UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long Island

Great show, enjoyed all of it except the end when she left the stage abruptly. Didn’t say a goodbye or a thank you to the many fans. Lots of fans were left confused by her departure. We weren’t sure if she was coming back onto the stage or not. Please thank your fans and say a proper goodbye to them for traveling from afar and making time to see you.

    Poorly Organized!

by Suri on 6/20/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

We paid a good amount for tickets closer to the stage (5th row). The first hour was fine but the last 2.5 hours of the concert were horrible. Not because of the artist but the POOR security! People from the back seats rushed to the front and in the aisles and stood there totally blocking our view. Needless to say, everyone who had paid big bucks to sit and enjoy the music had no choice but to stand if we wanted to see anything on the stage. People stepped on my mom's feet many times. We got aisle seat for her for better view because she cannot stand for more than 5 minutes. It was a total waste of our money and time. There were ONLY 2 security guys who did not ask the crowd to return to their seats. It was totally unfair to people at the front who paid a lot for the front seats. RIDICULOUS!!!!
