About

Mo Amer on Tour

A proud Arab-American who challenges assumptions and prejudices in the funniest possible ways, Mo Amer is one of the comedy world's sharpest new talents.

Named in Rolling Stone's "10 Comedians You Need to Know" in 2018, Amer became a breakout performer thanks to The Vagabond, his first one-hour special for Netflix. Recorded at the Paramount Theatre in Austin in his home state of Texas, the special captures a comedian with a unique ability to tackle thorny subjects with a remarkably light touch.

Whether he's relating his family's experiences as Palestinian refugees who fled from Kuwait to Houston during the first Gulf War, talking about the complexities of being a Muslim in post-9/11 America, or riffing on getting seated next to Eric Trump on an airplane, Amer presents it from a perspective that's all his own.

Audiences have been appreciating that perspective since Amer first began developing his craft in Houston's comedy clubs as a teenager in the late 1990s. At the age of 19, he became the first Arab-American refugee comic to perform for U.S. troops stationed abroad. The young comedian also attracted an invaluable mentor in Dave Chappelle. "Hilarious, thought-provoking, and inspiring" is how the comedy superstar describes Amer, his opening act for more than 600 shows, including his 2017 residency at New York's Radio City Music Hall. (It's also the voice of Chappelle you hear as the announcer for The Vagabond.)

Amer's comedy career has taken him to more than two dozen countries on five continents. In addition to performing with Chappelle and as a headliner, he has toured widely with Preacher Moss and Azhar Usman in the Muslim stand-up collective Allah Made Me Funny. Amer has recorded two specials with the group: Allah Made Me Funny: Live in Concert and Allah Made Me Funny - Official Muslim Comedy Show - Live HMV Apollo.

Amer has also made appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central's @midnight, and TruTV's Comedy Knockout. He co-stars with Ramy Youssef on the Hulu original series Ramy.

An Amazing Experience- no script, no filter. Just real, raw and relatable. Mo is not afraid to express himself. He is true to his roots, his individuality and his art. I will continue to support Mo Amer for many years to come.

Mo's Show is Everything We Need in Life Right Now

by Jess on 12/22/23White Oak Music Hall - Upstairs - Houston

Mo Amer's show was real, raw, unfiltered, and transparent + left time for an open Q&A dialogue at the end where audience members got to ask Mo questions about his life, his TV show, the past/current state of the Palestinian and Muslum experience in the U.S., and what's in store for the future. The intimacy of the upstairs room at White Oak Music Hall was perfect. Phones were sealed in envelopes that we held onto until the end of the show which allowed for everyone to be fully present, talk to each other, and I'm sure allowed Mo to say whatever he wanted to say without the fear of being recorded and posted online without permission. My only wish was that WOMH had snacks or even full meals available for evening shows. We got there at 6:45 pm, a little before doors opened at 7 pm and were there until late. Highly recommend eating dinner before evening shows so you're not like me eating 2 bananas in the car and leaving with a migraine.

    Mo Speaks His Mind

by Chris on 11/30/23White Oak Music Hall - Upstairs - Houston

It was a wonderful experience. I feel for Mo so much considering what’s happening in the world right now. I need more honest engagement about existence like this from more people, but most are unwilling to speak their mind. Thanks to Mo and thanks to White Oak for having him.

    Needs Mo' MO

by MLE on 9/19/23Bayou Music Center - Houston

He is just so, so good! Funny and compelling and touching storyteller. The disappointment came when his set was cut short (I believe) by the "special guests"of Dave Chapelle and some rappers -- neither of which were what we paid for or were eagerly anticipating. It was exciting and memorable for sure, but at the end of the night, we left feeling like we just wanted "Mo' MO!!"

    EPIC NIGHT!!!!

by Jazz on 9/19/23Bayou Music Center - Houston

The word “EPIC” doesn’t even begin to describe just how EPIC this comedy show celebrating H-Town’s own Mo Amer was! 2 comedians opened the show and then we had a surprise guest - HASAN MINHAJ! Then MO AMER took the stage and killed it! Then another surprise guest - DAVE CHAPPELLE!!! OMG! It was spectacular! The whole place went absolutely NUTS!!!! And our very own BunB closed the show and rocked old school UGK! Best celebration of Mo Amer Day! ❤️

    Great Show Poor Venue

by Nick on 9/19/23Bayou Music Center - Houston

The show was excellent as far as the performers. Mo Amer was phenomenal, many surprise guests, Hasan Minaj, Dave Chapelle, and the rest of the lineup was absolutely impressive. They are all top of the line! As funny and as entertaining as it gets! What fails to impress is the venue. Not very clean. More suitable for rock concerts than comedy show. Drinking excessively is encouraged by the many, many bars located everywhere around the whole venue. If you are unlucky to sit at the beginning of the row, you will literally stand up 10-15 times during the show because the idiots cannot stop drinking their beer so they either get up for another beer, or they have to pee. Was difficult to watch the actual show because you are constantly interrupted by having to get up for passing people, or couldn't hear well because lots of folks are just yelling, talking, like there is no show to follow. Of course, normally, one crazy guy had to be removed by security from the balcony stands because he was behaving like a caveman, yelling, screaming; apparently did not like some comment by Dave Chapelle. Another (I guess drunk) crazy lady kept harassing Dave Chapelle about his cup, his drink, this-that, so we all had to sit and listen to her stupid remarks and his (quite decent I must say) responses. So, that's on the organizer and the venue management. They are pretty strict about locking your cell phone in a pouch (I'm fine with that btw), even more stricter about body searches so you cannot get in a (God forbid) energy bar, or (Lord help us) bottle of water; but it's okay if you go and drink excessively, especially if you pay $20 per cocktail:) Still, rest of the crowd truly enjoyed the actual show, us included!
