About

MICHAEL MCDONALD IN CONCERT:

Ever since his 1982 solo debut, Michael McDonald has consistently dominated soft rock airwaves with his rich baritone voice and soulful performances. McDonald's powerhouse live shows are a veritable trip back in time, combining beloved hits like "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)" with classic material from his days with the Doobie Brothers. A distinguished performer with undeniable soul, McDonald never fails to bring the house down, and his 2014 tour dates will be no different.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in St. Louis, McDonald played in several bands in high school before heading out to Los Angeles to pursue music professionally. By the mid-'70s, he had landed himself a gig playing with jazz rock legends Steely Dan, appearing on several of their most influential albums including 1977's Aja and 1980's Gaucho. Around the same time, he was recruited by the Doobie Brothers for a national tour, going on to become a full-time member of the band as lead vocalist on classic recordings like "Takin' it to the Streets" and "What a Fool Believes." Following the Doobie's farewell tour, McDonald released his 1982 solo debut If That's What It Takes, a Top 10 hit on both the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. With eight studio albums and an extensive list of acclaimed collaborations under his belt, McDonald has plenty of hits to choose from as he puts together the setlists for his 2014 tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"He was absolutely wonderful as was his band and singers accompanying him. His voice was impeccable and just as awesome as it is on all of his recorded music."

"The performance was exceptional. They sounded terrific and the setlist was a blend of solid hits and several covers that meshed perfectly. The audience was totally engaged and McDonald really hit it out of the park."

"The guy still has it! Nice mix of Doobie days, and his own twist on some Motown standards. The musicians and female vocalist complimenting him were fantastic in their own right."

Great venue, sound was great, not a bad seat in the house.... Michael’s voice is still amazing, and the soul that emanates electrifies the room! Have seen him twice before with the Doobies and he does not disappoint now!! Highly recommend seeing him if he is in a venue near you!!

    good show but too short

by Las Vegas rocks on 10/14/19Venetian Theatre at the Venetian Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Good concert in a spectacular theater at The Venetian. The show was short at 1:20 and he perfoemed about 3-4 Doobies hits. He tweeked them so they were far from the originals. The female vocalist was very good as was the lead guitarist. Good enjoyable show but not my favorite. His voice is still the same as always. He was chatty which was nice.

    Terrific!

by Steelyrick on 10/14/19Venetian Theatre at the Venetian Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Michael and company were great in concert. The Venetian Theatre was a perfect venue for this concert. The size and space fit. We had seats on the second row center and if those seats would have been available the next night, we would have gone again!

    Soul Man

by Motown Mike on 10/14/19Venetian Theatre at the Venetian Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Michael's voice has not changed over the years. His soul sound is enormous. Band was great as well. The Venetian Theatre is an exact representation of the Paris Opera House. It once housed Phantom of the Opera for about 8 years. Acoustics are tremendous.

    intimate outdoor venue, great sounds

by wewa on 10/13/19The Fruit Yard Amphitheater - Modesto

First time at the Fruityard Amphitheater, really enjoyed the easy parking, the fast security lines, the relatively small facility so felt close to the acts even on the lawn. America was great, played their classics, harmonies were spot on. Michael McDonald was good as usual, but it was hard to understand what he was singing, more due to his style rather than the acoustics.

Michael McDonald is a fantastic performer. He sings beautifully and chooses a variety of old and new songs. It is also evident that he is a good, caring person who always shares a positive message. After years of attending his concerts, I literally can't wait to see him again. The venue was terrific too.

    Show plus crowd minus

by Doc Xeno on 10/9/19The Fruit Yard Amphitheater - Modesto

First time at Fruit Yard, mostly good but improvements needed. Stage right, large loitering area where people who weren't interested in the performance were loud and obnoxious. Limited drinks, beer and wine OK, but pre-mixed vodka cocktails only, I couldn't get a vodka rocks for my wife. The evening was stunning, sunset, clouds and a bright half moon. I will go again, but will opt for stage left to get away from the buffoons. Great addition to Modesto's music venues.

    Michael McDonald & America

by J. on 10/9/19The Fruit Yard Amphitheater - Modesto

This was my first show at the Fruityard Amphitheatre and it is a nice venue for a show but there were a couple of things to keep in mind. One, there is very little shade in most of the facility so prepare to be in the sunlight as you wait for the show. The gates open an hour before showtime so you could be waiting for a while to get in. Two, while security at the entrances is fairly thorough, it can bog down depending on the searcher. The girl in the line I was in started out having people take their lawn chairs out of the bag so she could inspect every one until a supervisor told her to skip that step because they were already using the metal detector wands. The concession stands are down below the show area and as typical, are not cheap. A sandwich was 12, bottled water 3 and bottled soda 5. Beers weren’t cheap either but that’s typical of concerts and sporting events. The visuals of the facility are great and the sound system was top notch, very clear. For the show itself, America played about 1:15 and that included their hits and other songs including Eleanor Rigby. They were a tough act to have to follow as their show was great. Michael McDonald took the stage and for me, I was a bit disappointed in that he played too many album cuts wherein he has enough hits either solo or with the Doobie Brothers to fill up a show. Many folks started leaving about 40-45 minutes into his show and I think another reason for that is that it turned cold later on in the night and many weren’t dressed for it. Overall, it was a pleasant experience despite the hiccups.

    America was great!

by E. F. on 10/9/19The Fruit Yard Amphitheater - Modesto

Michael McDonald should have played before America. He was a snoozer! If America had closed the show, I think more people would have stayed until the end.

    AMAZING Voice,, Talent and Show!!

by Johnson Fam on 10/9/19The Fruit Yard Amphitheater - Modesto

Michael McDonald continues to be an amazing force in music. His voice and the music had a smile on our faces throughout the concert. Played a TON on hit songs from throughout his career. The few songs that were newer were AWESOME! People that are true Michael McDonald fans and appreciate talent and great music would love this show. The band members were exceptional at all levels. Look forward to the next time we can experience a night like that again. Me. McDonald paired up for this night with America who opened the event up. They too sounded as you remembered, put on a top both show throughout.

    Awesome show!

by T. K. on 10/9/19The Fruit Yard Amphitheater - Modesto

Michael McDonald was great! This is the second time I have seen him this year. His voice and sound was strong and did not disappoint. He sang all of his great hits including some new and Doobie Brothers sounds. America opened the show with all of their classic hits. They were very appreciative of their fans and it showed. Their voices came through strong and clear. Overall this was a great show and venue!

    Fantastic UP Close Experience

by BigDHill on 8/22/19The Libbey Bowl - Ojai

Where to start, the chairs we had were about 30' from the stage,Michael's son Dylan opened the show, the meet and greet was very informal,NOT rushed like most M&G's, Michael was charming, personable and relaxed, my wife and I were lucky enough to have attended Michael's induction to NAMM and he was elated to tell us that MOST of his entourage wasn't even BORN yet... that was a fun moment... then a Great Performance and that voice is still AMAZING!!
