About

LOU BARLOW IN CONCERT:

Alternative fans are already familiar with Lou Barlow from his work with pioneering bands like Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, and Folk Implosion, but it’s as a solo artist that he funnels the most raw emotional energy into his concerts. On tour he takes the stage with nothing but a battered acoustic guitar and a boatload of honesty, as he shows the anguish underlying his creative process. The stripped-down transformation reveals a side of the songwriter that fans are sure to fall in love with, thanks to the heart-rending immediacy of songs like “Don’t Apologize”, “Spirit that Kills”, and “Legendary”. Ticket buyers can expect an intimate evening with one of indie music’s most confessional songwriters.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Lou Barlow first rose to prominence when friend and bandmate J Mascis invited him to play bass in Dinosaur Jr. They became one of the most popular noise rock bands in the US over the next few years, but internal conflict caused the frustrated Barlow to turn to home recordings for a creative outlet. He quit the group officially in 1989 to form the lo-fi band Sebadoh, which wound up having a huge impact on the burgeoning ‘90s indie scene in the process. The prolific songwriter had never penned a hit, but it finally happened in 1995 when he wrote "Natural One" while in the group Folk Implosion. Around the time Folk Implosion called it quits in 2004, Sebadoh also took a hiatus. Barlow again turned to home recording, making his official debut as a solo artist in 2005 with Emoh. In the next two years, Sebadoh and Dinosaur Jr. both reformed, keeping him occupied with two in-demand bands. Despite his busy schedule, Lou Barlow still finds time to focus on his intimate performances and stirring solo recordings, including 2015’s Brace the Wave.
