As NPR writes, "siblings Clyde and Gracie Lawrence are not your typical pair." Clyde Lawrence and Gracie Lawrence have been writing songs and listening to countless Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman, and Aretha Franklin records in their family's New York City apartment since they were little kids. After years of playing together, they officially created Lawrence, an eight-piece soul-pop band comprised of musician friends from childhood and college. The band has since gained a devoted following for its high-energy, keyboard-driven sound, which features tight, energetic horns and explosive lead vocals.

In July 2021, Lawrence released their new album, Hotel TV, and became the first band to release music under Beautiful Mind Records, the label of Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/artist Jon Bellion, who co-produced and co-wrote the songs on the album along with Clyde, Gracie and their bandmates Jordan Cohen and Jonny Koh. The tracks on Hotel TV have garnered tens of millions of streams across all platforms and have had multiple viral moments on Tik Tok and Instagram. Most recently, the album's lead single, "Don't Lose Sight," is currently featured in an international Microsoft commercial, which has propelled it into the Top 20 on the USA Shazam Pop Charts and has led it to begin receiving airplay on Top 40 radio stations across the country.

Touring has been a key component of the group's rise to success: The release of Hotel TV was supported by the Hotel TV Tour in Fall 2021, a 30-city tour across major cities in North America, including sold out shows at Terminal 5 in New York City, House of Blues in Chicago, and two nights at the Royale in Boston, among others. The group has toured with acts such as Lake Street Dive, Vulfpeck, Jon Bellion, Jacob Collier, Soulive, O.A.R., and Bernhoft, and has appeared at major festivals including Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Firefly, Okeechobee, Hangout, and Summerfest. They will be performing at Coachella in April 2022.

The signing to Beautiful Mind followed the release of Lawrence's sophomore album, Living Room. Upon its release in September of 2018, Living Room promptly reached #2 on the iTunes R&B/Soul chart, earned a featured placement on Spotify's "New Music Friday" playlist, and led the band to its late-night television debut on NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly. The album ranges from R&B/funk feel-good pop songs to soulful and cinematic ballads. Co-produced by Brooklyn-based producer Eli Crews, Living Room chronicles the trials and tribulations of growing up, including break-ups, make-ups, a family loss, and the attempt to find harmony between excitement, anxiety, melancholy, and empowerment. Sonically, the album combines elements of Lawrence's old and new influences by mixing live with electronic, analog with digital, and meticulousness with spontaneity.

Lawrence first rose to prominence in 2016 when they released their debut LP Breakfast (2016), which received attention and praise from a variety of sources ranging from NPR's All Things Considered to Steph Curry's social media. Produced by Grammy-winner Eric Krasno (Lettuce/Tedeschi Trucks/Soulive), Breakfast includes guest performances by NYC soul/funk mainstays Adam Deitch (Lettuce), Cory Henry (Cory Henry & the Funk Apostles, Snarky Puppy), and Maurice "Mobetta" Brown (Anderson .Paak, Tedeschi Trucks Band).

In addition to the band, Clyde and Gracie have also amassed considerable resumes with other artistic pursuits. Clyde has written songs and score for film and television, including Disney's Noelle (2019), Steven Spielberg's Animaniacs (2020), Landline (2017), The Rewrite (2015), Music and Lyrics (2007), and even Miss Congeniality (2000), for which he wrote the theme song at age 6. Gracie is an accomplished actress, appearing most recently in the Showtime drama Billions and the CBS All-Access murder mystery One Dollar. Gracie has also appeared on Broadway in Brighton Beach Memoirs (2009), in films such as The Sitter (2011) and Did You Hear About the Morgans? (2009), and in TV shows including The Good Wife (2012), The Americans (2014), and Younger (2015).

    Underrated!

    by I. M. on 11/19/23

I thoroughly enjoyed the show; I bought tickets to see them specifically, as an opener for the Jonas Brothers Nov 19 2023 in Saint Paul, MN. I like the instrumental features. I don’t think a lot of people understood what the band was doing when they were playing each others instruments, and therefore didn’t understand how impressive that is! The vocal part they asked the crowd to sing in one of the first songs was indeed fairly complex for your average joe. I thought the “get busy” cover was a bit of an odd arrangement, and perhaps not the flashiest throwback to cover, it did almost give me “no diggity” vibes. “It’s gonna be me” definitely got the crowd going a bit more. I loved when they pulled back from the large full band chorus a few times, to just stripped vocals. Sometimes the clarity and skill of Gracie’s and Clyde’s vocals I felt was buried in the mix of everything. Perhaps an acoustic/stripped song would be a nice showcase, just Gracie and/or Clyde with an emotional/story driven song? I love Gracie. She has pipes! Wasn’t huge on her outfit but I literally have no fashion knowledge. I think some people think she comes off as annoying, I don’t know why. I think she’s fun. Clyde was phenomenal on keys! He plugged all the usual stuff to support the band (merch, social media). I hope they have more enthusiastic crowds back home!; I was underwhelmed by the vibes of the peers in my section, although a good number did clap for “don’t lose sight”. Sound at excel from upper lever (c29) was decent. Lights were also pretty cool, although I thought there could have been better tracking spotlights on Gracie, and the band members when they went out front/down the walkway for solos. Thanks so much! Glad I got to see you!

Lawrence is so incredibly talented. The show is non-stop fun, they engage with the audience frequently, and Gracie's energy is unmatched by any artist I've seen before. This band was born to perform! They can take all my money because I will go to every show I possibly can.

    Coachella 2022

by The Hollywood Times on 4/15/23

Stunningly talented soul-pop band Lawrence made their Coachella debut on April 15, and hit the stage again at the Mojave tent on April 22 with an electric set. Already seeming veterans of the festival, they seemed almost excessively comfortable at the massive festival. The eight-piece soul-pop band, led by sibling duo Clyde & Gracie, hit it big with their single “Don’t Lose Sight” – a song about perseverance and determination. Clyde’s been a hit songmaker since age 5, and Grace is an accomplished actress. They are, in fact, “The brother/sister musical phenomenon you need to hear,” according to Affinity. We agree. The sensational band preaches the importance of staying strong and ignoring the haters, which seem to proliferate with the pervasiveness of the internet. The song is co-produced by Jon Bellion & Jorgen Odegard and written by the band, and the high energy single is all about vigorous vocals and big melodies. Simply put, the song makes you want to get up and dance. The acoustic version quickly went viral with over 4.3 million views on TikTok in its first week. The band’s 3rd album, HOTEL TV, dropped July 23rd of last year. The album features incredibly catchy Bellion-produced singles including “False Alarms,” “Casualty,” “It’s Not All About You,” “The Weather,” and “Freckles.” Not surprisingly, the band’s efforts have garnered tens of millions of streams across all platforms. Read Lawrence’s BIO for their full story including Clyde’s success as a songwriter (from the age of 5) and Gracie’s career as an accomplished actress.

First time to History, what a fabulous venue. Big general admission dance floor. Two massive long bars with lots of staff. Three different VIP lounges. Lawrence was great, put on an excellent show. Sound was good and band sounded tight.

Great band, great music, great show!

by Jason Steinbaum on 5/6/22Jefferson Theater - Charlottesville

How rare is it that a musically-talented band plays its own brilliantly composed and arranged songs in a spectacular, energetic show? Lawrence does it every time. This band is on their way to a Grammy. See them in a non-huge setting while you still can.

Most Fun Show I've Ever Been To

by Mathew W on 5/4/22Music Farm - Charleston

Lawrence is the most fun show I have ever been to by a mile. The whole band is insanely talented. Their audience engagement is on another level. They work really hard to make sure everyone is having a good time. If you like their music, it sounds just as good if not better live. You absolutely not regret going. See them live while they are still playing more intimate venues, because they are going to the moon.
