This show was so so good. Great energy and really good timing from both bands. Quasi made me happy, they hit their timing so well and the wall of sound was astounding. Spencer's band was just as good and had a hard hitting rock sound that filled the venue. Really fun show!
Anyone else would have folded with the Monday showtime, all the parking in downtown KC taken by the Justin Bieber show, and a low energy crowd, but not Jon Spencer and the Hitmakers... Jon came in hot and never cooled off until Love Handles. Coombes, Weiss, and Bert are an perfect band for the man. Almost made me forget Russel and Judah.. This new iteration from Jon Spencer needs more press/heat behind it. His ability to sermonize and ad lib is unmatched. Riffing and ripping into the supreme court decision a few days prior and media coverage in general without a stutter or a lost train of thought. Truly magnificent. Opener Quasi was fantastic, really talented duo with drums and rhodes piano and other crazy stuff. I didn't do enough research to learn they are all living legends. Truly blessed to be at this show. Awesome.
