About

Jeff Lynne's ELO in Concert

"It's nice to have songs in your catalog that stand the test of time." So says creator Jeff Lynne about one of the most cherished troves in the history of pop music. As the singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who masterminded the Electric Light Orchestra (or ELO for short), the Birmingham-bred Lynne created a fabulously futuristic yet eminently engaging series of hit albums and singles that may be just as thrilling to new generations of listeners as they were to the millions who bought them during ELO's original run from 1970 to 1986. Indeed, thanks to these songs' presence on the soundtracks for movies like ‘American Hustle' and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,' it feels like ELO's hardly been away.

Yet until the new revival, ELO had been dormant since 1986, Lynne resurrecting the band only briefly for the 2001 album ‘Zoom.' Lynne stayed busy with solo albums and production work for friends like George Harrison and Tom Petty, two legends who'd join him alongside the late Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan in the Traveling Wilburys. Then the release of a new compilation in 2012 — ‘Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra' — spurred Lynne and original ELO member Richard Tandy to perform a benefit concert at London's Apollo. It led to a much grander return for BBC Two's Hyde Park Festival in 2014, with all 50,000 tickets selling out in 15 minutes. "That felt like I was breaking through a barrier," said Lynne of the end of ELO's long hiatus as a live act. The triumphs continued with a medley of "Evil Woman" and "Mr. Blue Sky" at the 2015 Grammy Awards, a historic concert at England's iconic Wembley Stadium in 2016, and ELO's 2017 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

With the help of musical director Mike Stevens and 13 players, Jeff Lynne continues to bring the ELO experience to audiences worldwide in a two-hour show that includes such classics as "Evil Woman," "Strange Magic," and "Livin' Thing." Fans can also enjoy more unexpected pleasures like "Do Ya" by The Move, the ‘60s rockers that first teamed Lynne and his ELO cofounder Roy Wood, and the Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care." The new ELO songs Lynne wrote and recorded for ‘Alone in the Universe' (2015) prove that one of pop's most celebrated craftsmen has not lost his Midas touch.

    Best concert this year!

by rocken4allages on 8/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

I cannot believe it's been 40 years since I've seen ELO. They did not disappoint! The best show I've seen all year. I'm so glad that they're touring again. Hope they play MetLife Stadium, I will be there. Musically they were unbelievable, they didn't miss a Beat. The only thing I can compare it to is how Phil Spector created his wall of sound. Jeff Lynne's ELO Orchestra reminds me of that type of music. An auditory masterpiece.

    DISAPOINTING

by bam913 on 8/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

We drove all the way rom Florida for the show in NYC and after decades of not coming tot the US one would expect a decent length show especially what the tickets cost! First there was NO reason for a opening act and then ELO's setlist was a bit disapointing as he missed so many songs but the big disapointment was how short the show was!!! less than 90 minutes! I just recomend watching the ELO concert on TV as it not only was much longer but better produced with a full orchestra not just a couple pieces. We traveled to NYC for David Gilmour in 2016 and it was amazing, no opener and played for almost 3 hours. P.S. if you want a tshirt better rob a bank, yep they were $50

Their first time in MSG in 40 years, it was an honor to be there to witness the joy they infused the audience with, in every song. The quality of the sound at MSG was the best I ever heard at any live concert event, thank you sound technicians!

    Amazing and Awesome!

by Monarch79 on 8/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

The show was great! The production of light and sound were superb. Jeff Lynne could have been a little more informal and could have spoken to the crowd more. Also, everyone thought that the show short, running a little under 2 hours. The playlist was basically the same as the the Radio City show from 2016.

An epic concert 40 years in the making!

by Stewsings on 8/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

Its been 40 years since Jeff Lynne & ELO played the Garden. It was worth the wait. From start to finish, the show was a spectacular feast of sight and sound. The band was super tight, from the vocals to keys to strings, touching on pretty much every greatest hit they had, culminating with a Mr. Blue Sky finale. My only wish is that I could've gone back to see them again the night after. Legendary stuff!

    ELO Was Great

The concert was absolutely amazing. The venue, however, was not so great. The seats are way to tight at MSG. Everyone around us was also complaining.

    ELO @MSG 8/21/18

by JDMP on 8/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

We finally got the chance to see the genius of Jeff Lynne and ELO this week and the show was phenomenal! I've seen many concerts in my life and this was a rare time when I knew the set list beforehand and enjoyed the music even more than I expected. I have been an ELO fan since the 70's and jumped at the chance to finally hear them live. In fact, Jeff paused amid the typical and ever-present Garden fan buzz that energizes all bands that take the MSG stage to note it has been 40 years since ELO last played MSG! I can happily say one item has been checked off my bucket list!! Thank you Jeff and ELO for a truly memorable night!

Jeff Lynne sounds awesome, it was like listening to their greatest hits! I've been to many concerts this season and had never seen ELO. The violinists and cellists were great additions to the music. I wish I was able to go the second night!

    ELO RULES

by rossmann on 8/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

ELO played 19 songs Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden and delivered an exceptional performance. From the first note to the encore, Jeff Lynne's band of great musicians and singers gave the audience an excellent concert experience. They played all of ELO's greatest hits as well as The Traveling Wilbury's Handle with Care, a terrific new song called When I was a boy, and finished the show with a rousing Roll over Beethoven. The light show was top notch and the sound was amazing. The audience went home happy!
