About

Jeff Lynne's ELO in Concert

"It's nice to have songs in your catalog that stand the test of time." So says creator Jeff Lynne about one of the most cherished troves in the history of pop music. As the singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who masterminded the Electric Light Orchestra (or ELO for short), the Birmingham-bred Lynne created a fabulously futuristic yet eminently engaging series of hit albums and singles that may be just as thrilling to new generations of listeners as they were to the millions who bought them during ELO's original run from 1970 to 1986. Indeed, thanks to these songs' presence on the soundtracks for movies like ‘American Hustle' and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,' it feels like ELO's hardly been away.

Yet until the new revival, ELO had been dormant since 1986, Lynne resurrecting the band only briefly for the 2001 album ‘Zoom.' Lynne stayed busy with solo albums and production work for friends like George Harrison and Tom Petty, two legends who'd join him alongside the late Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan in the Traveling Wilburys. Then the release of a new compilation in 2012 — ‘Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra' — spurred Lynne and original ELO member Richard Tandy to perform a benefit concert at London's Apollo. It led to a much grander return for BBC Two's Hyde Park Festival in 2014, with all 50,000 tickets selling out in 15 minutes. "That felt like I was breaking through a barrier," said Lynne of the end of ELO's long hiatus as a live act. The triumphs continued with a medley of "Evil Woman" and "Mr. Blue Sky" at the 2015 Grammy Awards, a historic concert at England's iconic Wembley Stadium in 2016, and ELO's 2017 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

With the help of musical director Mike Stevens and 13 players, Jeff Lynne continues to bring the ELO experience to audiences worldwide in a two-hour show that includes such classics as "Evil Woman," "Strange Magic," and "Livin' Thing." Fans can also enjoy more unexpected pleasures like "Do Ya" by The Move, the ‘60s rockers that first teamed Lynne and his ELO cofounder Roy Wood, and the Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care." The new ELO songs Lynne wrote and recorded for ‘Alone in the Universe' (2015) prove that one of pop's most celebrated craftsmen has not lost his Midas touch.

    by K. H. on 8/8/19State Farm Arena - Atlanta

I've always enjoyed the work of ELO, but never remember having the chance to see any incarnations live. I'm so glad I went to this, because I was reminded of the fact that Jeff Lynn is a musical treasure

My Favorite Show of All Time

by Chris on 8/7/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

I've always wanted to see ELO live and finally got to see it in Pittsburgh. I love every song Jeff Lynne has ever done, so there's a good reason this show was my favorite of all time. I thought Jeff was great - a little less range than he used to have, but who doesn't? The band, excuse me, Orchestra was tremendous. Vocals and strings were terrific. Very tight show. Showcased a number of the members which was a nice touch. Jeff had Iain share some of the vocals which helped fill in the vocals and helped Jeff get through this tour. Happened to play all my favorites. Wild West Hero has always been a favorite. Plus the last part of Poor Boy (The Greenwood). What a treat. Great sound and visual effects. My only regret is that I didn't travel to other cities to see this show at least one other time.

    Exactly what I hoped for

by ELO lover on 8/7/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

Jeff Lynne and his Electric Light Orchestra did not disappoint in concert at PPG Paints Arena! He looks and sounds so wonderful and was just as good as I remember 35 years ago. They took me back with all their best and beloved songs and my only wish was that it could have gone longer. What a great night !

    One of my top concerts

    by twilight on 8/7/19

Jeff Lynne gave a great performance. The sound coming from the band was terrific! 2 Cellos, 1 violin, drummer, etc. The delivery of the light show was exactly what I expected. The crowd around us were very lively but not obnoxious. My husband was fortunate to see ELO in 1981 when the robot came on stage before the Twilight song began. That is one song I wish they would have also played. If you didn't get to this concert, you missed one of the best ones of all time!

    Spectacular

by Long Fan on 8/7/19Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Back when ELO was young, I was not old enough to go see them. Getting to go and see their music live and played by Jeff himself was truly a wonderful experience. The stage and visuals were wonderfully additive to the experience without being distracting. The sound levels were right at the sweet spot of being all consuming without hurting your ears. It was truly an evening i will remember for a long time.

Nice light show, great music. I forgot just how many good songs ELO had out. Many in the audience sang along to a good number of his songs. One of the top 5 shows I had the pleasure of seeing.

    Reliving My Youth

by Kim on 8/6/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

My first ever concert experience was back in 1981 when my dad took me to see ELO at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh. I was blessed to be able to take my now 81 year old father to see ELO at PPG Paints Arena and we both enjoyed the wonderful show. Jeff Lynne came out and played one hit after another for a solid 90 minutes and was backed by a fantastic group of musicians and vocalists. I was musically transported back in time. Reliving the memories associated with songs.

ELO = Out of this world!

by BigDogMom on 8/6/19Nationwide Arena - Columbus

A group of high school friends waited 40 years to see ELO in concert.....it was worth the wait! Least amount of talking ever at a concert......Jeff Lynn let the music do the talking instead. Great music, great experience with forever friends.

ELO was great, but sound was TOO LOUD

by Al on 8/6/19Golden 1 Center - Sacramento

Golden One Center needs to turn the volume down from 11 to an 8 please for the love of god it's ear screeching LOUD and destroys the music.

    Finally!

by gutenmorgas on 8/5/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

I've been waiting 38 years to see Jeff Lynne and ELO in concert...since the "Time" tour in 1981, which I missed in high school. I was blown away by the show! Vocals, instrumentals, backup singers, light and laser show, and massive background video and effects were all first class and worthy of the ELO legacy. So glad Jeff still has the pipes to sing all his hits flawlessly. I told my wife that we saw a music legend that night. Would have loved to hear "Twilight" and the amazing intro to that song, but the entire show was solid from start to finish. And it was so great to see that Pittsburgh loves ELO! The fans all had a blast and sang along with all the songs! It was truly a night to remember! Thank you Jeff for your amazing songs, production talents, and love of music that you've shared with all of us for all these years. You are a masterful music genius!

    Music great. Sight lines poor

by WVhomeowner on 8/5/19PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

Had floor tickets and struggled to see the stage in full given blocked views. Stood for entire performance. No point in buying these premium seats.
