Nice performance, odd things stick out

by Choral Fan on 11/8/22Bardavon 1869 Opera House - Poughkeepsie

Overall it was a lovely performance of this amazing piece, and it was awesome to see this at the Bardavon. However, sometimes I wish we could kick it up one more notch in the mid-Hudson Valley. Like, what's with the one guy in the orchestra in white tie, while everyone else was in black? He didn't seem to be different than the players, and he stuck out like a sore thumb, lit up with a light, glowing even after the stage lights dimmed. And, I think the audience member whose phone went off right in the middle of the delicate chanting by the 4 young women soloists should send them a heartfelt written apology. The notice to silence phones is buried in the program -- probably worth mentioning this out loud at the start?

    A celebration

by Linda E on 3/8/22Bardavon 1869 Opera House - Poughkeepsie

The show was amazing. The philharmonic was so expert in everything they did. The conductor, the music chosen, and the solo performance was moving, spirited, top notch and conveyed the beauty and pain of Black American culture, the theme of the night.

    Total Washout

by Roger Liller on 12/21/21Bardavon 1869 Opera House - Poughkeepsie

Tickets were sold to me via a fourth party called Ticket Sales. Com which I believe took my money for these "resale" tickets from Ticketmaster and didn't actually have the tickets to sell. They put me off for hours on the day before and morning of the event failing to deliver. The tickets were finally sent 40 minutes after the show began. This is a crass and totally unfriendly system of doing business and presumes that all transactions should be done electronically instead of personally. I am in the process of trying to obtain a refund.

    Joyous

by Sunshine on 12/21/21Bardavon 1869 Opera House - Poughkeepsie

How lucky we were to experience The Messiah at The Batdavon. Covid has canceled and challenged the World , but they pulled off a special performance that I felt lucky to experience. The only thing that would have helped was microphones for the soloists, but overall it was incredible!! Hallelujah

    Messiah —Sing a long

by Timothy J on 12/24/19Bardavon 1869 Opera House - Poughkeepsie

It’s fun to sing-a-long with a full orchestra and a large chorale. Soloists were very good this year, the baritone and soprano especially. The conductor informative and keeps the tempo moving. Excellent! Great music. Great venue. Part of my annual Christmas celebration to the “King of Kings.”
