Home Free on Tour

Though Home Free are primarily considered a country group, the quintet's concerts are quite a bit more. First and foremost, they're a vocal act in the a cappella tradition, which means they know how to make five voices sound like a full band even without any instruments on the stage. They pull off this impressive achievement by incorporating lush harmonies, beatboxing and vocal counterpoint that harkens back to doo-wop and barbershop. While recent years have found Home Free moving toward a more country-based sound, with a repertoire that includes the likes of Vince Gill, Blake Shelton and Maren Morris, they also venture into plenty of other areas when they perform live. A cappella versions of tunes made famous by Ed Sheeran, Shakira or The O'Jays are just as likely to enter their performance repertoire.

Home Free in Concert

The a cappella phenomenon known as Home Free came into being in Mankato, Minnesota, in 2000 when five young men, including brothers Adam and Chris Rupp, joined their voices together for the first time. Their repertoire was all over the map, including country, pop, soul and rock 'n' roll. The group eventually hit the road hard, and began releasing albums on their own label in 2007 starting with From the Top. But things changed in a big way for Home Free when they won the TV competition show The Sing-Off in 2013. By that time they'd become more country-oriented, and after earning a record deal with Sony/Columbia their albums started regularly entering the upper rungs of country charts. Several personnel changes occurred over the years, the biggest when Chris Rupp departed in 2016, but in their current incarnation Home Free still bring the a cappella magic to the stage every time.

Love Homefree and was excited to attend this concert. They sang so many of my favorites and were engaged with the audience. A wonderful experience.

    Disappointed

by Frustrated on 4/17/24Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

Very disappointing experience. I had looked forward to this show. 1. Strobe lights behind the group were blinding to the audience. 2. Sound system was too loud, made it difficult to hear the lyrics. 3. The group was on stage for 35 minutes, then had a 30 minute intermission. 4. Part of the first half of the show was spent promoting the merchandise for sale. 5. After the intermission was one song, then a very long solo (not sure when it ended, at that point we left completely dissatisfied). 6. Song/set selection was disappointing as well. Would not consider going to see this group perform again.

    Very Disappointed

by Susan on 4/17/24Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

We were very disappointed with this concert! They sang for 30 minutes then took a 30 minute break. They came back and sang 1 song then the music maker man came out and did his 20 minute solo. The they came back and did 30 minutes more. 1 hour is all we received of the whole group singing!! There was also a lot of talking through out the concert... promoting there stuff. The song selection wasn't good either. Sounded like they were trying to make everything sound like techno. It just wasn't the Home Free that we are use to hearing. Adding beat box to their songs isn't good. That's not true acopella. We will go again but it's going to be a while. Then we will determine if we ever go again Just all around disappointing!

The group was awesome as always

by Groupie on 4/17/24Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

Getting the tickets through Ticket master was an ordeal I shall not be repeating. The tickets were a gift from a family member. Took her 2 days, tech support and phone calls to be able to transfer the tickets to me. Then when I tried to access the tickets on my phone, "bad command"kept popping up on the Ticket master website. Always want to see Home Free in concert but will get my tickets from another source.

Home Free puts on a great show!

by Loralye on 4/17/24Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

I was a little apprehensive about making the trip for a concert, but I love Home Free and decided to go for it. It was easy to find and had plenty of paid parking. There were three different lines we had to stand in before entering the auditorium, but the facility was pretty, clean and had numerous attendants, security personnel and clean, well-stocked bathrooms. The show was great, they sound better live than on their videos, and those sound amazing. The pre-show VIP event was well executed and fun! One of the ladies working there even found some ear plugs for my daughter since there had been a monster truck show there earlier in the day. I will not hesitate to come to the next show! Great job by all!

I really like their singing but do not like a lot of their show. They don’t sing enough but use other things to fill it up.

    Could have been better.

by Yudamahn on 4/17/24Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

Huntsville was the last stop for the group, and it showed. I got the impression that they were a bit tired and couldn’t wait for it to end. The songs they sang were great, but too few of them, and it seemed they were cut short. It was good to see the team member that made drum and instrument sounds, but it went on for too long. I think I counted a dozen songs for the entire concert. Overall OK, but not my money’s worth.
