About

HAMILTON is the story of America then, told by America now.  Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, HAMILTON has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre--a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education.

With book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, HAMILTON is based on Ron Chernow's acclaimed biography. It has won Tony®, Grammy®, and Olivier Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and an unprecedented special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors.

    Best Show Ever!!!

by SeeBlue on 1/26/18San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

On a scale of 1-10, 10 highest, I give Hamilton a 10! I have been to many shows and Hamilton took the #1 spot in my heart beating out CATs and Phantom. Go see it before it's gone.

    Forgettable

by pileddeeper on 1/26/18San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

My wife and I have been to the civic theater hundreds of times over the past 50 years. We have never left before the final curtain until Tuesday night. This touring group and production where as about as amateurish as we have ever experienced the diction of the actors and their ability to engage the audience was completely lacking, it was like they were going thru the motions and just wanted to get it over with. As we were leaving we noticed several others were doing the same and just shaking their heads at how poor the performance was. The civic theater has a terrible sound system which has never been improved the ticket process was slow due to having to use cell phones to produce tickets. There was no security onsite at or around the venue, The area is dark and litter everywhere. The homeless are in every doorway. People wonder why San Diego is considered a second rate town. It is why we get the b and c team instead of the original cast. We do pay 1st class prices for the performances. We deserve better.

Hamilton is genius, epic and an amazing journey

by Babydollspray on 1/26/18San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

Hamilton is an epic musical journey that transcends slave theology in the 18th century to the 21st century. The musical is a precision dialogue with a symphony of rhymes and rhythm that refreshes the moral code. Uplifting, Entertaining, Extraordinary

The Understudy Who Played AHam Almost Ruined It :(

by Karabunga on 1/26/18San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

The understudy who played Hamilton, Ryan Alvarado, almost ruined this fabulous production. He shows no emotion. He has no physicality. They must have chosen him simply because he can mimic Lin-Manuel Miranda's voice. One relates more to Aaron Burr, the villain, because Ryan Vasquez is so fabulous, while one feels almost nothing for Alexander Hamilton. The actual person was so endearing, and he did SO MUCH for our country. It's a real shame that the producers chose Alvarado. I am a huge Alexander Hamilton fan... read the Chernow bio twice, have listened to all the music on Spotify a jillion times. And with the tremendous popularity of the show, perhaps my expectations were too high. But the rest of the production was excellent. The star of the show was missing in action!

School House Rock Meets The Beastie Boys

by sunny760 on 1/26/18San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

It was an amazing story of Hamilton's life, told in the manner of School House Rock with the smart rap-rhyming that the Beastie Boys were known for. It makes for powerful storytelling and is definitely worth seeing...if you can get past the price of theater tickets.

Hamilton (touring) was worth the price

by BOHseats on 1/25/18San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

We thoroughly enjoyed the "Hamilton" touring musical here at the Civic Theater, San Diego and LOVED the humor of the King!. Two suggestions to enhance your experience... Number 1 - READ the play summary, or read the original book by Miranda before you go. It helps you follow the music and story-line. Number 2 - LISTEN to the entire score before you go. Try Spotify etc., and the music is AMAZING. Yes, at times the "rap/hip-hop" can be a challenge to understand, if you're not familiar. This isn't a typical musical with spoken words linking the songs. Nope...it's ALL music and lyrics. Don't miss the chance to see it. You can even enter the Hamilton Ticket Lottery if you don't want to spend, but it's worth every penny. You'll walk away with a whole, new understanding of Hamilton and Burr.

    Must see!

by Calisoftballfan on 1/25/18San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

If you only saw one musical in your entire life, it should be Hamilton. It will ruin all other quality musicals for you, but it is worth it. Just listening to the soundtrack does not do it justice. The set and choreography is essential for the entire experience. I have seen it twice...so far. Every time it is a unique experience, there is so much going on that you get the opportunity to see something new every time.

    Round 2 and even better!

by PatronPatron on 1/24/18San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

Saw round 1 at the Pantages and needed more and it was amazing in San Diego as well. Seats a little steeper to climb to for this 54 year old patron of the arts, but once in place it was so wonderful to see Hamilton again. Such an amazing cast with so much talent! Was not able to see it in New York the last two times I was out there so this made up for it with 2 awesome performances in California. Thanks cast and crew for your awesomeness!
