Extremely Cold conditions detracted from the event

by Siwag on 12/7/14Germain Arena - Fort Myers

Came from London to watch some tournament basketball and I appreciate that it was played in an Ice hockey arena and that the afternoon sessions were very sparsely attended (I went to afternoon and evening) ......but I've been to other basketball games played in these types of arena and it wasn't nearly as cold as it was here . I asked a man with a Germain Arena polo shirt on about the cold and he basically just laughed at my suggestion to add a bit of heat. Also, disappointingly the $15 event t-shirt after 1 wash has seen all the lettering on the back disintegrate (even after I was very carefully to follow the washing instructions). Went to the Orlando Classic the next day and the difference was night and day, no ice to contend with but a far better organised event.

    the Frozen south!

by Swedesand on 12/5/14Germain Arena - Estero

WE are UConn fans who live in MN. We were unprepared for the COLD venue! There was a hockey rink under the basketball floor so the cold temps must have been required. It was 60º or less. The seats were cold. The cold was blowing on the backs of our heads and necks the whole time. The first game we showed up in our shorts and sandals. Thankfully we had our jackets with us. I had left a scarf in the car (for our return to MN) and had to talk my way out of the building. The gal at the door said their policy was to not let people leave and return! But she relented. The next two days we were prepared with long pants, sox and shoes, layers, jackets and scarves. 80º outside and so cold inside. It really detracted from our experience. But, the basketball was great!

    Gulf Coast Showcase

by BigUconnFan on 12/3/14Germain Arena - Estero

Great seats in the arena and enjoyed the game sessions that I attended. Arena ushers were helpful. HOWEVER: Where was the Arena Manager or maintenance staff? There is no excuse for the super cold temperatures in the arena. Who is the person responsible for monitoring that? I realize it's Florida and air conditioning in necessary, but not at the level it was.

    Great game - very cold

by FrostyCC on 12/2/14Germain Arena - Estero

Being able to see the UConn Husky Ladies in SW Florida was great. Very nice floor and excellent scoreboard. The sound system was a bit hard to understand at times. Now… that being said: It was so very cold. Everywhere. In the Breakaway restaurant where we ate before the game, in our seats and in the restrooms. Hot coffee did not even help. I asked about going out to my car to get a heavy coat and was told no. I would have to buy ANOTHER TICKET to get back in. We already had floor seats and I was not going to pay any more. Neither the arena Web site or Ticketmaster gave any warning about the cold environment.

If you follow your team... Be prepared...

by MrSpats on 12/2/14Germain Arena - Estero

The arena is primarily an ice hockey rink so it is VERY cold inside with the basketball floor over the ice; coats and long pants are needed. A reasonably small and intimate arena with good sight lines to watch the games. Seats and row aisles are very narrow and difficult to get in and out of. The referees recruited for the tournament seem no better than high school referees. If you can live with those conditions, it is a fun place and fun tournament to watch. Parking is good and access in and out of the arena is excellent. No long lines and inexpensive all day parking passes.

    Showcase

    by Stan34 on 12/1/14Germain Arena - Estero

AWESOME... Not often do you get to see high caliber women's basketball. Initially went to see an impressive UCONN team but found the other teams equally talented

    Love Women's college basketball

    by huskie123 on 12/1/14Germain Arena - Estero

The parking attendants, ushers and food venders were very pleasant and helpful. The games awesome. The announcing was audible and just enough. Missed having more going on during half time and in between games on the floor. There was one small contest held but I have been to other tourneys where they bring in acts like jump ropers, youth basketball teams to play a 10 exhibition, and musical groups. They also throw t shirts into audience during time outs. The arena was very cold and made it a bit harder on me to enjoy the game. I wore long sleeves and pants and a jacket but it wasn't enough to keep me warm. The seats are very small - not much leg room.

    Cold

    by djb45 on 12/1/14Germain Arena - Estero

The entire setting seemed like we were in an ice arena, which is all this is. But the ice was still in, covered by a small layer of insulation. Can't imagine playing on the court. Prior to the event ticket sales were very difficult to understand. You had 4 women's BB teams playing, but the tickets were not organized by team. So you had a splattering of fans all sitting at random in a cold arena. Hard to feel you were there to support your team. Very poor preparation by the organizers.

    Ticket Problem

    by Golf234 on 11/29/14Germain Arena - Estero

Imagine finding people in your seats and they had the correct seats! The upgrade given was very poor and customer service at the venue below average. This appears to be a lack of communication between the venue and the university, however this venue might be the problem.
