Dance
This was more modern dance than ballet so we were somewhat disappointed. I loved the pastel costuming, Dancers did a nice job, but the choreography was somewhat repetitive. Last few dances had livelier music and routines. It was unique.
I am new to the community and prefer to support our local arts I had heard that in the past the San Diego ballet company was not that great. But I was told they had regrouped wore much better now. I thought the quality was fairly good. Unfortunately the only ballet I have to compare it to our amongst the top like the New York City, ballet and American ballet theater I would give it another try
It was an honest and fun retelling of the classic story and here is downtown San Diego (which was honestly the worst part due to gross parking structure). Actually, come to mention, do NOT park in the gross parking structure downtown. Eww. Anyways, back to the ballet. The music was fantastic thanks to the San Diego Symphony. You just really have to appreciate how much work goes into these productions. The first half used the charm of young children which was obviously sweet but their lack of synchronization was a little distracting. The second half really demonstrated the skill and artistry of the talented ballerinas. The lead dancers were very high caliber. I am not a ballet expert but this would be the fourth time I've seen the Nutcracker and I've seen it in Phoenix, Joffrey in Chicago, and a Russian Company. The Russian was technically breathtaking, but this one would fall behind that one since it was very entertaining and most importantly, kept my kids attention for two hours.
Nutcracker performance was lovely! We will support the Golden State Ballet again with pleasure.
The Nutcracker performance December 23, 2923 at the San Diego Civic Theater was amazing. The choreography was perfect, the ballet dancers were stunning and the symphony was incredible. My Ticketmaster purchase of 6 tickets was easily accomplished and we had a great view from our seats .
This looks more like a school performance, not worth the expensive price people pay to watch it. I understand it should be amazing to see your little kid perform on stage alongside with ballerinas but I did not come there to watch other people's kids dancing. I expected a more professional ballet performance. Disappointed. But at least my son enjoyed it.
This was a wonderful ballet and a great performance. A wonderful way to celebrate the season!! Amazing ballet!!

The new choreography and dancers were excellent as well as the San Diego Symphony, made for a memorable evening. What was missing was the ambience in the lobby. There was no boutique filled with nutcracker mementos or souvenir programs featuring the company dancers or even a program to see casting except for some QR code in the lobby which nobody really used as phones had to be turned off during the show. As a past ballet mom I suggest getting a production committee of parents to revive this. We raised $30k in the past during a run of Nutcracker. I wish this new company a grand future but it takes $$$$$!
Great show, really well danced. My family and I have been going to see The Nutcracker yearly for almost three decades. This was a well done performance!
