Gloria: A Life on Tour

History. Her story. Our story.

GLORIA: A LIFE brings us a richly detailed tapestry about one of the most inspiring and remarkable women of our time. Five decades after Gloria Steinem began raising her voice for equality and championing those of others, her vision is as urgent as ever. Gloria's life's work and philosophy on the necessity of conversation as a catalyst for change offer us all a path forward in a way that only live theater can. The first act is her story; the second is our own.

    Fun Reunion & Educational

by Rie on 2/12/19Daryl Roth Theatre - New York

Two good friends from way out on Long Island came in on the Jitney to have a New York moment and Gloria, A Life was just that. It’s a very good Off Broadway play. We all enjoyed learning a little more about Gloria and the theater didn’t have a bad seat. The lead actress was amazing as were the other actors.

    An unprecendented experience

by jean on 2/6/19Daryl Roth Theatre - New York

I came of age when Gloria did. The story of Gloria was not my story but the times we lived in were the same. Each person's journey through those times is unique but strangely alike. It was as though I was reliving my life. It was deeply emotional. Such a strong impact on my very core. When the discussion time arrived Gloria herself walked in and my body started to sob, responding totally apart from my "higher" senses. The accumulation of my past experiences and the remembered necessity of Gloria being somehow always present in my consciousness back then, was overwhelming. At last I "met" her in our advanced ages. Thank you for this unprecedented experience.

    Moving and worthwhile

by Ejr1 on 1/30/19Daryl Roth Theatre - New York

While well-performed and creatively presented the play itself is somewhat static. That said, it's still a great experienced the talk-back at the end is a terrific addition. Christine Lahti is simply the gold standard for American actors today.

    Worth the Time

by Kimbe on 1/19/19Daryl Roth Theatre - New York

One of the most pleasant theater experiences I have had. I took my 20 year old daughter and we both enjoyed the personal and political history of Gloria that was explored in a very creative way. The pleasant staff was an added plus.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Gloria Steinem

by CD on 1/18/19Daryl Roth Theatre - New York

I am 65 and lived through part of these times, but never fully appreciated what Gloria and the other feminists had already forged for us. As a physician, very concerned about healthcare, I have seen how easy it is to give up when confronted with the powers that be. Though Gloria had setbacks she never resigned to the status quo. Seeing this has made me more determined.

    Gloria is Glorious

by Claire on 1/16/19Daryl Roth Theatre - New York

What a fantastic theatrical experience. Christine Lahti embraces the role of this American hero like a champ. I loved learning so much about Gloria and her remarkable life story. And remembering seeing her speak at my first Women's Liberation march in 1970 when I was 12. My sister and I loved the show.

    Finding My Voice

by A. Szeligowski on 1/15/19Daryl Roth Theatre - New York

This play gently tells the story of the loving relational nature of the Women's Movement with Gloria Steinem as the fulcrum. There is laughing and crying and most of all connection. Women who know this story and more importantly, women who don't need to see this play. Hell, everyone should see it.

I loved this as a presentation of her life and purpose.

by N. R. on 12/30/18Daryl Roth Theatre - New York

Everything about her is packed into this show, which feels more like a presentation for all of us who love her, rather than a play. I love Gloria S. so I was thrilled to learn more about her and sit with so many supporters eager to celebrate her and all the causes we believe in. However, as a very frequent (3-4x/week!) and sophisticated theatergoer, if I look at it critically, I believe it would be even more powerful if it were edited to focus on certain themes/stories rather than try to include everything. In the talkback, someone in the audience suggested adding something about trans people, and a lead player said she'd convey this to the playwright and it would get added. I agree with that if the purpose is to have all people and all stories included, and apparently that is what has evolved. If we look at it that way, it's wonderful and inclusive. However, plays are usually more focused on specific themes or messages. Anyway, for what it is, I loved it!
