About

Indie pop trio Foster the People came together in Los Angeles in 2009. The group is known for psychedelic, dance-orientated pop and rock which spans many genres. Their 2011 album Torches has sold over 321,000 copies and their single “Pumped Up Kicks” was the sixth-best-selling digital song in the same year, selling 3.84 million copies.
The band was formed by Mark Foster in 2009. He provides lead vocals and plays several instruments, including keyboards and guitar. His fellow band mates comprise Cubbie Finkton on bass and Mark Pontius on drums and percussion. Their first song “Pumped Up Kicks” was an internet success in 2011 and the group was offered a record deal. The band slowly began to build up a fan base by making appearances at small venues and appearing at several music festivals, including South by Southwest and at Coachella. They continued to perform and were booked for a month-long residency of concerts at the Echo night club in LA. By the time they came to perform for the third time, there were hundreds of people queuing to get in and the group were beginning to capture public attention.
Their single “Pumped Up Kicks” was released in 2011 and gained airplay on alternative radio stations, entering the Billboard Rock Songs Chart as well as the Alternative Songs Chart. In May of the same year, the track entered the Billboard Hot 100. Later that month, the group released the album Torches, which entered the Billboard 200 at No. 8. The band then embarked upon a sell-out tour in the US and Europe that lasted 10 months.
The band continued to build up a following, with ”Pumped Up Kicks” breaking into the mainstream top 40 and spending eight weeks at No. 3. Foster the People have scooped several awards for their music, including Top Rock Song for “Pumped up Kicks” at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. They have also been nominated numerous times, including two Grammy Award nominations for “Pumped Up Kicks” and Torches. At the awards ceremony, the band performed alongside Maroon 5 with The Beach Boys in celebration of the Beach Boys' fiftieth anniversary. In addition, the band have been nominated for two NME Awards and two MTV Music Video Awards. Their latest album is called SuperModel.

    by Vans on 11/25/21

I've been to a good amount of concerts now, and this was my first Foster the People show. I was a bit nervous, but they exceeded my expectations! They played for 2 hours and sounded incredible!! It was awesome that they played all of Torches Deluxe and songs from other albums. It's a night I will never forget!

    Good vibes during strange times

by Cyn on 11/22/21The Wiltern - Los Angeles

During covid protocols, it's so wonderful to be able to see and hear a band full of heart and love. We need Foster the People and I'm so thankful for this show. People were living life and many thanks to every single person who helped put on this show at The Wiltern. Not all is bad, and this was very very good.

Torches X at the Wiltern 11/17/21

by Jason on 11/22/21The Wiltern - Los Angeles

The lines were crazy and a bit too long, but I am not sure there is anything they can do about it at this type of venue. Otherwise the show was fantastic. The sound was great and the view was awesome. 10/10

    Torches is a timeless classic

by kcirtap888 on 11/21/21The Wiltern - Los Angeles

I love this band and album so much I convinced my wife to let me fly solo from Atlanta to LA to see the Torches anniversary shows! One of the best musical decisions we’ve ever made. It was my first time seeing a show in Los Angeles and the Wiltern was a fantastic venue to experience for my first. As for the show itself, Foster and co. were at the top of their game, beginning and ending each show with a good mixture of new songs and others from the Supermodel and SHC albums. The meat of the show belonged to the middle with Torches played from start to finish in all its glory. While standard FTP setlists heavily feature Torches songs, it was a treat to have them played in order as I originally listened to them over ten years ago. FTP also gave the set a bonus with several B sides and cut Torches era songs making their first appearances in many years, some of which have developed into personal favorites. It was one of the music highlights in my 12 years of attending concerts. I’m looking forward to the next full tour from FTP in the near future.
