About

About the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

There are lots of annual events out there that go back a long way, but none can hold a candle to the history that's behind the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. The oldest of any continuously operating rodeo in America, it began toward the end of the 19th century, way back in 1896. Every year since then (with the exception of 1943 for WWII-related reasons), the event, also known as the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show, has brought the best in rodeo entertainment and livestock exhibitions/competitions to Texas, with people traveling from all over the country to see it. Now, that's a tradition. Not surprisingly, considering its long history, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo has been responsible for many innovations over the years in the presentation of rodeo, including the first indoor rodeo, and the first presentation of Brahman bull riding.

So what can you expect from the current version of an event with such a rich legacy? Well, for starters, three weeks' worth of rodeo action, of course, including the ProRodeo tournament as well as the likes of Bulls' Night Out extreme bull riding, the Best of the West ranch rodeo, the Best of Mexico Celebración and the Cowboys of Color rodeo show. But there's much more beyond that. Livestock shows include everything from cattle and goats to pigeons and poultry. There are lots of live music performances, from country to mariachi music, plus Western music and cowboy poetry. Wine and beer makers host events based around their crafts. Onsite food vendors offer no shortage of menu items to satisfy every taste. And when you patronize the rodeo, you're also supporting a nonprofit organization that's been responsible for donating huge amounts of money to foster the future of agriculture and livestock rearing.

    Empty Seats again?

by Pat on 1/29/24Dickies Arena - Fort Worth

I am still wondering why I buy my seats during the presale event, but can only get the top tier level2 seats, when we attend the event half the seats are empty on the 1st level...how do I get the lower level seats?? This has been happening every since the Rodeo moved to the new Dickies arena. I do understand that companies buy sections, but when over half the arena is empty...I think there is some type of issue. This is tradition our family does each year and we have been going to this Rodeo for over 40 years, I just wish there was a way to get in the next lower sections. The only other thing is there is not halfway point for the entertainment like there used to be...the kids always love the monkey riding the little dog or the motorcycle trick rides.

Few tkts avail but the place was empty?

by Ed on 1/29/24Dickies Arena - Fort Worth

FWSSR is a great event and Dickie's Arena is top notch. My complaint is the availability of tickets. I went online the same day tickets went on sale last year and all the best seats were already sold out in just a few hours. I attended the 2PM rodeo on Friday, January 26, and the seat map showed everything was sold out with a great deal of tickets available from resalers (scalpers). I would've gladly paid face value for a better seat located in the lower bowl but not if I'm going to pay double or even triple the price from a scalper. The venue was barely 1/4 full for that show and I was very disappointed. I realize it's difficult to defend against professional scalpers who use robots to buy the most desirable seats but you must try to do better.

    Yee - haw!

by Mic on 1/26/24Dickies Arena - Fort Worth

First time seeing the rodeo at Dickies Arena and what a great venue! We had a great view and could see the entire arena floor from end to end. Of course the indoor shopping is full of wonderful vendors and we hit up the ferris wheel on the midway. Had to come home with candy apples and of course some goodies from the vendors. Thanks for a wonderful time!

Show was great - support staff - not so much

by REBEL on 1/25/24Dickies Arena - Fort Worth

The rodeo at Dickies arena was amazing - spectacular performance. Unfortunately, nearly every support staff employee was not very friendly and it felt like they were burdened to get food/drink and even a wheel chair for my father. Good time, but because of the staff, I would think twice before attending again.

Much much better than I expected…..

by Buster on 1/24/24Dickies Arena - Fort Worth

I had planned to take my “little Cowboys” aka grandkids to the rodeo, but unexpectedly I had mobility issues with knee complications. I called Dickie’s Arena and JACKIE returned my call and was a sweetheart and gave me instructions as how to access wheelchair escort upon arrival. Two gentlemen came to my rescue. STAN picked me up at the door and wheeled me waaay far away to our seats. After the rodeo, I hitched a ride with PAUL. These two men were lifesavers ( and Jackie as well ! ) .They were so nice, respectful, and friendly. The only negative is, they would not let me give them a Tip. What a nice FREE service Dickies provided. Thanks to everyone involved. Buster ps…. what a beautiful facility!

    Difficult

by DC on 1/23/24Will Rogers Coliseum - Fort Worth

We attended two events. While the Rodeo was great, the Mustang competition experience was not, but not because of the horses. Our Ticketmaster bar code didn’t work and we had to find someone to help. The seats were not marked well on the ticket so we had to go find help again, then finally we got to our seats just to find out other people had been sold the same seats as us and they had gotten there first. Sooo yet again we had to go find help. The staff were kind enough to find us seats in another area.

I had the most wonderful time at the Mustang Heritage Championships at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth, TX. I was directed to parking in the garage. Easy walk to my destination. Great sales, seats, food. The trainers and horses were amazing and I picked the winner. Loved every minute.
