Please sir, some more Eddie Izzard

by Anna Brooklyn on 3/27/24Orpheum Theatre - New York

I have followed Eddie since he began in late 1990s. I saw Great Expectations and was amazed. I went back to read the book and he hit it on the nail with his 1 man show. Here with Hamlet he did it again. It's been awhile since I read Hamlet but he captured the charaters. The sword fight at the end was kind of thrilling even though he fights himself and you know the ending. There are a few bits that allow his humor. As a fan you catch it. All in all a wonderful performance. Bravo/Brava! Looking forward to the next one.

Impressive but didn't allow Eddie to shine

by Wade on 3/26/24Orpheum Theatre - New York

Hamlet is hard enough to follow and it's even more difficult as a one-person show. I love Eddie Izzard and yet we left at intermission (as did quite a few people). The format didn't allow Eddie to shine. Memorizing all those lines for all those characters was definitely impressive but in the end it just wasn't entertaining.

    Eddie Izzard does it again!

Excellent show! Eddie Izzard was great as always. Kept the audience entertained for over 2 hours. Funny, too 😁

    A tour de force

by Missy-E on 3/25/24Orpheum Theatre - New York

This was one of the best one-woman shows I’ve ever seen. Eddie Izzard is a remarkable performer who can hold the stage and audience with grace and skill. Eddie joins the ranks of the great Hamlets (& every other role in the play). Go see this!

    Stunning and Unique

by JeffK on 3/24/24Orpheum Theatre - New York

Eddie Izzard has been a force of nature for over 30 years, and is at the top of his game. It would seem virtually impossible for one person to perform all the roles in Hamlet with no props, no scenery and no costume changes, yet with the help of some discrete editing of the original script and the helpful addition of a few explanatory phrases, this consummate comic handles the whole thing with ease in two and a half hours continuously on stage. Less, of course, one 15-minute intermission, more for the sake of the audience members than the one marathon cast member. Most actors might be able to perform this feat once over the course of a week, not 7 times a week. So, go see it! It shall not come this way again, saith The Bard.

    Critics were too kind

by qp on 3/24/24Orpheum Theatre - New York

An emotionally lifeless waste of time and her considerable talents. I love Eddie but never have I felt so disconnected from a show - sitting in the front row of a tiny theatre with one actor delivering rote memorisation into the middle distance. It was bizarre. She did not deliver a performance beyond knowing her lines and even these she stumbled over several times in the first half. Spent an hour and change staring up at her chin wondering why I paid $100 to be here, then left at intermission.

Love Eddie, but this wasn’t it

by Deelite36 on 3/24/24Orpheum Theatre - New York

Kudos to Eddie/Suzy for taking this on. However, it needs improvement. The characters were pretty much all spoken in the same voice, no change of tone or pitch to help differentiate the characters. The set was bare, nothing to even help you imagine the setting. More than a few members of the audience left at intermission, I know I stayed as I wanted to support Eddie and also because I paid a good deal of money to see this performance. Having knowledge of the play certainly helps, but overall, this was a major disappointment.

    AMAZING

by ROJJ on 11/9/23Cullen Theater at Wortham Center - Houston

Suzy Eddie Izzard is always amazing. Coming to Wortham Center was a huge plus as the seats are more accommodating to larger individuals. Cannot wait until the next time.
