Let me start off by say that i think Dijon is a genius and Absolutely is a modern day MASTERPIECE. I believe the album will go down as one of the greatest of this era. The whole project, including the YouTube short film in the apartment set was amazing and so raw and real. I came into the live show with high expectations and excitement. I have been playing the album on repeat for the last 3 months. The show started great, high energy at the right times, slow and somber energy when appropriate. However, mid way thru the set, i feel he lost me, and many of the other attendees. The song selection was all rather slow and morose. The long wailing guitar riffs and audio distortions dragged on and on. I started to question whether what i was listening to was even considered music or just noise. I sat in my seat and looked around at the crowd. Many people had fallen asleep and other looked bored. There were looks of confusion and a sense of "get on with it already" was in the air. We play 2 songs at the end that everyone knew the words to, but the songs seemed rushed and play out of obligation. We left at the last song, and when we heard he went on for an encore, we decided to leave anyway.
At the end of the day, it was good to see this artist and his talented band live. Nothing beats live music. I just feel with all the buzz this artist has generated and the fan base that has grown like a wildfire, he could have come with more energy and more showmanship. I will still pay the album on repeat, and still recommend this artist to anyone who cares to listen. But if he comes into town again, i will be hesitant in buying the overpriced tickets.
