Dallas Stars History

The Dallas Stars began play in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars, earning two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. They relocated to Dallas after the 1992-1993 season and dropped "North" from their name.

The team immediately brought a winning tradition to Dallas, making the playoffs four of its first five seasons. Then came the back-to-back seasons that Stars fans will remember forever. In 1998-1999, sparked by center Mike Modano (the franchise's all-time leading scorer), off-season addition Brett Hull, and goaltender Ed Belfour, the Stars swept through the playoffs to defeat the Buffalo Sabres and clinch their first Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, the Stars again made the Stanley Cup Final, but lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games.

The Stars made it to the playoffs six more times over the next seven seasons. The team earned the best regular season record in the Western Conference for the 2014-2015 season. The team went on to clinch additional playoff berths in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. They made it to the Final again in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game Six.

Since their arrival in 1993, the Stars are one of the most successful sports franchises in Dallas, making 18 postseason appearances and capturing eight division championships and two Presidents' Trophies.

    STARS WATCHING PARTY WAS AWESOME!!!

by Joe the Stars Guy on 6/7/23American Airlines Center - Dallas

The Dallas Stars opened up the AAC for us to watch the Stars play the Golden Knights in Las Vegas. What a party that was!! The crowd was electric! It was loud and wonderful in there. The Stars won that game. Thank you for opening up the arena for such a fun party! There were plenty of concessions for the crowd and open seating in lower level. And the Hanger was open for souvenirs. All in all , it was a very fun time with a great group of Stars Fans.

    Epic but also disappointing.

by John Fitzgerald on 5/26/23American Airlines Center - Dallas

I've been a Stars fan ever aince Minnesota, i love going to games and being in the environment of hockey and the Stars nation in general. However the attitude and complete lack of respect for all Stars and Vegas fans by throwing trash on the ice is uncalled for that is not who we are as fans of this great sport and for thise of us who want to enjoy the game win or lose is saddened by such behavior. Stars wether we win or lose are always a good group of guys and put on a good game regardless if we win or lose, go Stars!

    Dirty, sticky arena

by Hockey enthusiast on 4/9/23American Airlines Center - Dallas

What a filthy, sticky arena! I could not believe how dirty and sticky the entire place was and how much the restroom doors need a good scrub down.

What a great experience for my friend, it was her first hockey game. The stars did a fantastic job on the ice just as the employees of the arena did for the fans. Love the experience and can’t wait to go back!

    Good team…bad stadium

by Mase on 2/25/23American Airlines Center - Dallas

The games are always fun but they need a new stadium. The seats are gross and old and the cup holders on both sides were broken.

    Lonnie Reviews Hockey Games

by Lonnie on 2/21/23American Airlines Center - Dallas

The Dallas Stars staff was very helpful, and I appreciated their help. I attended the Boston Bruins at the Dallas Stars NHL ice hockey game at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX on Tuesday, FEB 14th. The Boston Bruins have been my favorite NHL ice hockey team since 1969, but I like the Dallas Stars, too. I am glad there is NHL ice hockey in Dallas. The Boston Bruins won the game by scoring the game winning goal with 1:42 left in the sudden death overtime period. I give credit to the Dallas Stars for playing a good, hard-fought game. I enjoyed the game and was glad I was able to attend it. (I live in Moore, Oklahoma and had to drive to the game.)
