Dallas Stars History

The Dallas Stars began play in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars, earning two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. They relocated to Dallas after the 1992-1993 season and dropped "North" from their name.

The team immediately brought a winning tradition to Dallas, making the playoffs four of its first five seasons. Then came the back-to-back seasons that Stars fans will remember forever. In 1998-1999, sparked by center Mike Modano (the franchise's all-time leading scorer), off-season addition Brett Hull, and goaltender Ed Belfour, the Stars swept through the playoffs to defeat the Buffalo Sabres and clinch their first Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, the Stars again made the Stanley Cup Final, but lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games.

The Stars made it to the playoffs six more times over the next seven seasons. The team earned the best regular season record in the Western Conference for the 2014-2015 season. The team went on to clinch additional playoff berths in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. They made it to the Final again in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game Six.

Since their arrival in 1993, the Stars are one of the most successful sports franchises in Dallas, making 18 postseason appearances and capturing eight division championships and two Presidents' Trophies.

    Parking Dah!

    by Scott on 1/5/24

This is ridiculous how do you buy parking? dah I need parking at the same time I buy tickets. Why do you need to make it so difficult. How about asking the question when you’re checking out.

    Always a great time!

by Teresa in Dallas on 1/3/24American Airlines Center - Dallas

Dallas Stars games are fun! All the green, all the lights, all the action! And thank you, AAC for the wider variety in food concessions! We love the homemade chicken salad sandwich kiosk! And having more than one Hangar location to buy merch is awesome as well!

    Discomfort

by David on 12/20/23American Airlines Center - Dallas

The temperature in the arena was obnoxiously cold. I am from out of town on business. For any return trips to Dallas, I will not be attending any Stars games.

Good atmosphere but way too cold

by Pasc1974 on 12/13/23American Airlines Center - Dallas

Nice atmosphere especially at start, then of course a bit quieter with the Stars losing the game. The cold temperature in the AAC was a bad surprise and luckily we bought hats at the shop but still… way too cold.

Had not been to a Hockey game or practice in years, Was actually at the VERY First EVERY Official Hockey Game in Dallas for the Dallas Stars and Detroit Redwings... Program signed by Bob Gainey and most of the team and also Steve Yzerman and Sergei Fedorov of Detroit.

Great Time Watching NHL in the old home Town

by SouTexMac8 on 9/30/23H-E-B Center at Cedar Park - Cedar Park

It was a great evening watching one of our favorite NHL teams in person. The venue is an excellent place to watch hockey as they're not a "bad seat"in the house. The price was right and nearly a full of excited fans routing for the guys in Green. This is one our favorite places to watch hockey. Go Stars!

Worst sports experience I have had so far

by Mihnea on 9/28/23H-E-B Center at Cedar Park - Cedar Park

We arrived at the arena 30 minutes ahead of time, which is generally more than enough time to park and walk in at this particular venue. We had to wait 10 minutes just to get into the parking lot. There were just two attendants swiping credit cards. Obviously, parking is usually free at this arena, but the greed of the organizers carried over from the exorbitant tickets prices to the parking too. Once we parked, we were met with an interminable, slow-moving line just to get in the door. There were no signs and no attendants to help the line move faster, and only two doors open for the whole crowd. It was 100 degrees outside, and everybody had to wait 30 minutes in line. Half of the first period was gone before we got to our seats. The prices for the tickets were outrageous, especially considering none of the star players actually played the game. Dallas Stars and Arizona should have announced the line-ups before the game, but again, greed prevails. Nobody showed up to this game to watch players who will most likely end upon in the AHL anyway. If you're not going to play your stars, just let the public know! The whole organization of this venue was beyond poor, from the parking, to the entrance lines, the ticket prices, etc. I have been a Dallas Stars fan since 1998, but if this team resorts to these shenanigans just to make a buck, they will lose their fan base pretty quickly. As far as the HEB Arena, well, I for one will not go back.

    Too loud

by Ab on 9/28/23H-E-B Center at Cedar Park - Cedar Park

In my mid 20s and my hearing is normal. I’ve been to plenty of AHL/NHL/pro sports games, and this one has had the loudest sound system by far. Could barely hear the person next to me between plays and periods and my ears were ringing when I left. Unfortunately forgot ear plugs, but at the same time the music was unnecessarily loud. Not impressed

Wonderful venue. Great crowd!! Tons of fan support!! Great easy access to food, drinks and bathroom. The crowd was wound up. The Stars were amazing!! Everyone that worked there was pleasant to work with. Loved seeing both mascots. Loved all of it!!

Fun but well below NHL quality

by Craig on 9/28/23H-E-B Center at Cedar Park - Cedar Park

Lot of money to see mostly AHL players, at an exhibition game no less. Very few NHLers were actually on the ice especially Arizona who looked terrible.

    Where were the Dallas players?

by Hockey Fan on 9/28/23H-E-B Center at Cedar Park - Cedar Park

Was disappointing, as we went to see the Dallas Stars but all the players were the Texas Stars. It was just an over priced AHL preseason game. Not a single recognizable name from the NHL, which is what we went to see.

    Dallas Stars at HEB Center

by Dallas Stars at HEB Center on 9/28/23H-E-B Center at Cedar Park - Cedar Park

It was an awesome event!! Now what would be awesome would be to get a regular season game at the HEB center. However keep the preseason games coming!!!

    Great team!

by Sara on 9/28/23H-E-B Center at Cedar Park - Cedar Park

Loved seeing the players and the venue is great. Hoping you’ll bring back the wine vendors for future events so the drink carts are not just beer.

    A waste of money

by TDB on 9/25/23H-E-B Center at Cedar Park - Cedar Park

First, it took over 20 minutes to get into the parking lot. This would not happen if you didn't have to charge for parking (like the Texas Stars do) We got to the door 15 minutes before puck drop but the line to get in was at least an hour long at every door. This is in 100° Texas heat in long sleeve jerseys. My wife and I left and went to dinner instead. No reason to sweat for an hour just to see half (or less) of a scrimmage. I will never buy another Dallas Stars scrimmage in Cedar Park.
