CULTURE CLUB IN CONCERT:

Calling all karma chameleons: Culture Club is back on the road to promote their latest album Tribes, and fans across North America can relive the ‘80s as Boy George and company perform their classic new wave hits on tour. In concert Boy George remains as fierce a showman as ever, taking the stage with the same gender-bending makeup and outré fashion that made him a global ‘80s icon. Whether he’s bringing the drama on upbeat favorites like “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya” or melting hearts with his coy croon on “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me”, George always charms audiences with his soulful delivery, infectious dancing, and candid asides between songs. The band keeps pace beautifully, cranking out their signature brand of reggae-influenced new wave with an ease and funkiness that is sure to get fans grooving. Whether they’re performing solo or sharing the bill with fellow new wave icon Howard Jones, Culture Club always treat fans to a nostalgic and dance-worthy journey through some of the best sounds of the ‘80s.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Culture Club was formed in London in the early ‘80s by Boy George, an androgynous club kid who had previously sang with legendary new wave outfit Bow Wow Wow. Calling themselves Culture Club as a nod to their diverse cultural backgrounds, the band made their debut in 1982 with the album Kissing to be Clever. Though the album’s first two singles failed to make much of a mark, third single “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” topped charts around the world, catapulting the band to international superstardom virtually overnight. Their 1983 sophomore album Colour by Numbers was an even bigger smash, blowing up charts around the globe with catchy hits like “Karma Chameleon” and earning the band a Grammy in 1984 for Best New Artist. Culture Club released two more albums in the mid-’80s to moderate success, but by 1986 Boy George’s struggles with addiction had pushed the band apart. They reunited in the late ‘90s and released the 1999 album Don’t Mind If I Do and toured for a stint, but George’s successful career as a DJ soon led to another hiatus. Following a few one-off shows in 2011, the band reunited in 2014 to record their sixth album Tribes -- a highly anticipated return that has fans dying to catch them on tour in support of the release.

    Howard Jones Saved the Show

by MotoPapa on 11/8/23Toyota Pavilion at Concord - Concord

Boy George rambled on and on and tortured us with songs we did not want to hear. People next to us wanted to dance after HoJo but they sat in their chairs. We left half way through Boy George and were talking about Howard Jones the whole time back home. Venue is great and sound is clear at any seat. We were close but wanted to feel what the lawn was like and that was crisp and good for lawn seats.

by rograbt on 10/3/23Pine Knob Music Theatre - Clarkston

We were excited to see the band for the first time. They did not disappoint. The Letting It Go tour included Howard Jones and Berlin and all 3 acts sounded amazing.

    Great Time

by CaOrsi on 9/9/23The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion presented by Huntsman - Woodlands

We'd never seen Culture Club before, so it was a really fun experience. Boy George still has his beautiful voice and also a great sense of humor. It was a blast hearing all the wonderful songs I grew up listening to.

    PHENOMENAL!

    by Sagiqueerius on 9/7/23

In spite of the heat (I'm definitely not a fan of summer), this show ROCKED. MY. WORLD. Howard Jones got everyone out of our seats with all of his hits... age has NOT slowed that guy down AT ALL- he's still got it. His band was amazing, and the positive chemistry was palpable. Then we got to see the lovely Terri and Berlin... WOW! I remember getting into Berlin's music late (early 90s), but I always loved her voice, the music and the poignant lyrics. She rocked us whilst prancing the stage in a beautiful white gossamer outfit which absolutely enhanced her powerful aura. She spoke of her recently-departed mom who was from Cincinnati... and I sincerely felt for her while she told the story. THIS is how a star engages with the audience. Then, there was George... INCREDIBLE. STUNNING. A BEAUTIFUL creature of LOVE and LIGHT. I'm proud to be a longtime fan, and I have his "G"tribal tattoo on my own neck, same place (my name is Gracie, so the G fits)- my dedication to my hero. So, you might think I'm a bit biased- but in reality, I'm brutally honest AND a tough critic... and I kiss up to NO ONE. George is to be highly commended for his talent, his attitude, his voice, his outlook, and his positivity. He engaged with the audience and was absolutely HILARIOUS with his quips! I'm so very proud of him, and I couldn't be happier with his STELLAR performance. He works hard on his art, whether singing, painting, designing his hats or the myriad of his other talents- and it SHOWS. Vangelis, Roxy and drummer/bassist Kevan were all fantastic as well... I was honored to meet these lovelies at the hotel lounge afterwards. Amazingly talented, I was so impressed! My front row seats were worth EVERY PENNY! If you get the chance to see Culture Club, DON'T MISS IT!! Like me, you WILL walk away ecstatic!

    Rushed

    by KL on 9/1/23

The concert seemed rushed. I felt like it was cut short. Boy George only performed for 1 hour and was rushed to hurry. I expected him to perform longer that the opening acts.

Boy George has still got it. Loved the amphitheater too!

by Fan of the Club on 8/30/23

Travelled to this suburb of Houston since the tour wasn’t coming any closer to my town. Aside from those extra costs, this ticket was very affordable. I absolutely loved the venue! Never have I enjoyed an outdoor event this much. As for the musical acts, it was a mecca of 80s hits, even some covers that were unexpected. Thanks to all. Everybody looked and sounded amazing!!
