Coldplay is one of the best-loved British rock bands in the world, with numerous tours, top sellers and awards to their name. Formed in 1996, the band's original line-up comprised Chris Martin, the lead vocalist, and Jonny Buckland, the lead guitarist, who met at University College in London. Originally the band was called Pectoralz, which later became Starfish after the bassist, Guy Berryman, joined along with drummer Will Champion, who also plays multiple instruments and provides backing vocals.
The band finally decided on the new name Coldplay in the same year that they recorded and released their first three EPs: Safety, released in 1998, the single “Brothers and Sisters,” released a year later and “The Blue Room,” also released in 1999. This last single was the band's first major label release with Parlophone. Collaborations include recordings with Jay Z, Nelly Furtado and Rihanna, and the band have also said that Travis were a major influence on their early work, along with Muse, Kate Bush, George Harrison and Echo and the Bunnymen. Later influences include Arcade Fire and My Bloody Valentine.
It was their single “Yellow” released in 2000, that launched the band to instant international acclaim, and their debut album, Parachutes, followed later that year, receiving Mercury Prize nominations. Coldplay's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, released in 2002, also received widespread critical praise and won a range of awards, including the prestigious Album of the Year award from NME. The next album release was X & Y, which was also well received, and the fourth album release was Viva la Vida, or Death and All His Friends in 2008, which earned them a number of wins at the Grammy Awards. Their fifth album, Mylo Xyloto was a chart topper in 34 countries.
The band has also won a large number of awards, including seven Grammys, five MTV Music Awards, and eight BRITs, with over 25 nominations in all. Coldplay have sold over 60 million records across the world and have toured extensively across Europe, the Americas, Australia, Asia and Africa. They also strongly support a range of political and social causes and have performed extensively in charity concerts, including Live 8, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Band Aid 20, Hope for Haiti Now, Sound Relieve and the Secret Policeman's Ball.
Yeah..... we got the cheap lawn seats. SO WORTH IT......Why.....Sure enough they came all the way into the back and played right there on the lawn. We ended up being only 25feet if that away!! They sang Green Eyes and did a tribute to Micheal Jackson with Billy Jean. I got goose bumps!!! It was awesome. I have been to that Venue so many times, and I have never EVER seen an Artist do that...... .
They gave the show their all. Chris Martin is incredible. The special effects were awesome. It was a very inspiring concert.
Coldplay was awesome. The stage and lighting was unbelieveable. They played a lot of songs from the new album mixed with some old favorites.
Awesome show! Love how they engage the audience so much. They played out in two different areas of the audience. Lots of energy. I would love to see them again!
Quite frankly, one of the best shows, indoors OR outdoors, that I've ever been to! Had never seen Coldplay live before, and was incredibly impressed with how great they sounded live -- even when leaving the stage and setting up shop once in the stands and once on the lawn to sing a couple songs! They were perfectly crowd-interactive and just fun! Awesome show!
Having seen Coldplay before - I can tell you that they are by far and away at the top of their game! They were amazing, Chris Martin is unbelievable on the piano, the band is tight. Their concert music is exactly like what you hear on a CD. This concert they seemed more relaxed and comfortable with their success and more easily interacted with audience. Actually, they got the audience involved before the show even starts with a "roadie" coming out and getting everyone going. It was fun & the music is GREAT!
The concert was so cool! The band were really great, great songs, great ilumination effects... I liked that they changed 2 times of escenary and give the chance to the public of diferent areas to enjoy the show a little bit closer.. And the moment that sang Michael Jackson song , just fantastic!!

Coldplay was definitely the best concert I've seen in a while!! I really enjoyed the performance and can't get enough of Chris Martin's crazy self bouncing around on stage! He is so full of life and energy and I really enjoyed every minute of it!! The lights and the effects were amazing and I also loved how they came to the back (lawn) and performed there!! The Michael Jackson tribute was not bad either! All around, AMAZING SHOW. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!!! It's such a shame for us to part....too bad they won't be back in SD for a few years (as spoken by the truly, beautifully talented Chris Martin) COME BACK SOONER, Coldplay!! Please? :) Thanks for a great show!!!
This was the first show for my daughter and it was unforgettable. During the show I was telling her that every show she goes to will be judged against this Coldplay show
it was more than i expected.. amazing.. so talented.. and i was al lawn level and i loved that they decided to go up our way and have a moment of closeness to all of us who were far away from the stage.. i loved it!!! extremely talented.. great lyrics.. awesome lights, stage, great interaction with the public.....
Absolutely fabulous. Fantastic show given by four very very talented musicians. I loved that the show was not over produced; it was so fun. Everyone stood, sang, & danced for the entire show. No doubt Coldplay will be around for a very long time. Can't wait to see what is next.
There was an amazing light show, amazing cinematography, amazing butterflies flying everywhere, amazing music. I loved everything about that concert. I've heard that coldplay does not perfom well, but those rumors were proved wrong last night.
Coldplay put on another amazing show. Chris Martin was making the audience laugh in between songs. Coldplay always seems to know how to give back to their fans and make them feel like the greatest fans in the world. Coldplay performed a couple of songs from the lawn to make sure even the people in the back of the arena would be right there in the action. After the show, free CD's of a live performance were given out to everyone.
A great show with excellent value for your money. I would go anywhere to see Chris Martin. They also put in some nice surprises that I haven't seen at their prior concerts.
Coldplay was awesome. They sound great live. The instruments were amazing. The lights were perfect. They are energetic, witty performers. I liked the explosion of confetti butterflies and the yellow balloons when they performed Yellow. They sound as great live as they do on their albums!!!
What a great concert! Chris Martin is not only a great musician, but a great entertainer. The music was fantastic. It was also a perfect night to see a concert. Great weather and crowd.
The band sounds great. They fill the seats. The production value of the concert is second to none and absolutely incredible. They create a great atmosphere to go with a date or a group of friends. If you can go, GO!
It was one of the best shows I've ever been to...NO!...the best!! It was mind blowing! an amazing experience!! People from all ages were singing every single Coldplay song...giving you goosebumps making this concert an unforgettable concert. Every single song sounded out of this world...can't wait for the next one.
It was amazing! First time I went, and went in the pit. Amazing first two opening performances and then Coldplay was astounding!!! The effects, I had never seen before! Awesome "Mexican Wave"! Except there were cameramen infront of us, they should really put a mechanical camera that doesnt cover up so much space for pit people.
