About

Cirque Eloize: Saloon On Tour

Saloon, the latest touring production from Cirque Eloize, is billed by the Montreal-based circus company as "a musical acrobatic adventure." You may be thinking, "Acrobats? In a saloon?" — and you're right to wonder.

Cirque Eloize specializes in the type of improbable mashup that puts trapeze artists alongside sledgehammer jugglers, gunfighters on opposite ends of a seesaw, and straight-razor wielding knife throwers in an old-time barbershop. It's all presented within a surreal Wild West setting soundtracked by a trio of live musicians singing classic American country and folk tunes. The Wild Wild West comes alive indeed.

Weird? Yes. Wonderful? You bet. With its combination of modern circus and musical theater, slapstick comedy and gravity-defying gymnastics, Cirque Eloize is here to not only entertain but to inspire. And in Saloon, your own imagination is as much a part of the show as the masterful performances.

Cirque Eloize was born in 1993 and stems from the same French-Canadian circus tradition as Cirque du Soleil. Since then, founders Daniel Cyr, Claudette Morin, and Jeannot Painchaud have conceived, choreographed, and produced more than a dozen different themed shows, grown the company to include hundreds of performers, toured 50 countries around the globe, and staged 5,000 performances along the way.

The Acadian word "éloize" (heat lightning) captures the feeling of a Cirque Eloize show: excitement, flash, and wild energy. Saloon is one of their most musically infused spectacles, featuring a live string band playing songs by Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash, plus classics from The Great American Songbook like "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." Family entertainment doesn't get much livelier — or loonier — than this.

    Not enough "Cirque"

Mainly too loud, twangy country music, with a little acrobatics thrown in here and there.

    Amazing Show!

by Jedigirl52 on 2/15/17Reynolds Performance Hall, UCA - Conway

I took my 11 year old daughter to see this show and we both found it to be well worth the view! The child was on the edge of her seat for the entire performance and begging for the show to keep on going. The cast performed amazing stunts with seamless transitions between sets while singing, playing instruments and periodically breaking the fourth wall to draw the folks in the theater into the story. The characters were hilarious with magnificent facial expressions and super strong, well rehearsed performances. The show occasionally drifted out into the audience, much to the delight of everyone in the first few rows. We clapped and cheered so much our hands and voices suffered the next day. I would highly recommend this show to any one who wants to take a couple hours out of their daily lives to be amazed, laugh and enjoy the antics of this amazing cast!
