Cincinnati Reds History

The Cincinnati Reds continue a tradition of baseball on the Ohio River that dates back to the first professional baseball team, the Cincinnati Red Stockings, in 1869. The team has enriched their history with five World Series titles and nine NL Pennants. During a successful run in the ’70s, in which the team won back-to-back championships in 1975 and 1976, the team earned the nickname "Big Red Machine.” The Reds claimed their fifth trophy in 1990.

The Cincinnati Reds have dozens of former players in the Hall of Fame, 12 National League MVPs, eight Rookie of the Year winners and one Cy Young Award winner.

Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park

Great American Ball Park is located on the banks of the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati and serves as the home of the Cincinnati Reds. Opened in 2003, the nearly 43,000-seat stadium reflects its host city’s riverside setting with two replica steamboat smokestacks in center right field that can emit fireworks and flames throughout a home game. Great American Ball Park stands at 100 Joe Nuxhall Way, honoring the late Reds pitcher and broadcaster. In 2015, the venue hosted the MLB All-Star Game.
