About

Brendan Schaub On Tour

While stand-ups all get some hard knocks while developing their craft, few blows can compare with the kind Brendan Schaub received in his former career as a professional mixed martial artist. Before the Colorado native became a podcaster and performer, Schaub spent six years competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Surely handling hecklers is no big deal for a comic whose former job meant dodging round kicks.

Although that transition may surprise MMA fans who watched him in the Octagon, it was a natural step for a comedian and storyteller who pairs a relatable, every-guy manner with quick wit. Schaub’s second career began when he met comedian Bryan Callen on the set of The Ultimate Fighter, the reality TV competition show on which Schaub was a contestant in 2009.

The friendship between the UFC vet and the former MADtv cast member led to ‘The Fighter and the Kid,’ a comedy podcast that debuted in 2014. Thanks to its uncut mix of commentary about the MMA world and colorful anecdotes from both men’s wild lives, their hit podcast now averages 9 million downloads per month. Its success prompted a national live tour and appearances on many other TV events, including live UFC bouts with their friend Joe Rogan.

In 2016, Schaub and Callen collaborated on ‘The Fighter and the Kid 3D,’ a live-action sketch-comedy incarnation of the show that debuted at No. 1 on iTunes’ comedy chart. Schaub also built a loyal following through his own podcast, ‘Big Brown Breakdown’ — which garners more than 4 million downloads per month — and his appearances on E! Network after-shows for the Golden Globes and the Grammy Awards.

When Callen first suggested that Schaub try stand-up as they were conceiving the stage version of their podcast, he thought he was nuts. But then Callen and Rogan convinced him he had all the skills he needed. “You’re a great storyteller,” they told him. “You’re just gonna tell stories.”

What began as 10-minute solo stints became full-fledged and fully hilarious stand-up sets at such fabled clubs as the Comedy Store and the Laugh Factory. Eager to follow the lead of another notable UFC retiree and become what he jokingly calls “the C.M. Punk of comedy,” Schaub is back on the road to showcase material that will soon be featured in his debut Showtime special in late 2019.

    Worst show ever

by Joy on 11/6/23Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino Bears Den - Niagara Falls

It’s was terrible. People were getting up to leave throughout the show. We thought about it but finally it ended. No laughter at all from the audience. The MC was funny. But the the rest was a waist of time and money

    Do NOT waste your money

    by Sam on 6/26/23

Last December I was working a construction job. We were cutting 2X4s to build the frame for a house. Just before lunch that day, I lost focus for a second and cut 4 of 5 fingers on my left hand off. That was the 2nd worst day of December. The worst was spending money to watch this braindead mongoloid attempt to talk for an hour.

    Ya Blogggbuster

I would rather dig up Pol Pot and take a chance surviving the killing fields rather than subject myself to seeing a 40 yr old who refuses to use vowels and has the comedic ability of a 7th grader who just got done huffing paint out of a sock.

    Don’t waste your money

    by J. B. on 4/16/23

First off, I bought an overpriced tee shirt at the merch table that looked a little faded and within a few washes was so faded that you couldn’t even make out the image anymore. The show was embarrassingly bad, especially since I hyped him up to my friends and wife and they each one may have chuckled a few times max, but mostly yawns. Then we did the meet and greet and you could tell that he was just ready to take a pic with you and move you along. Not what I expected for $90 per person with the vip package

Pathetic displays by a talentless individual

by World class comedy critic on 3/12/21

It seems to me that the comedy stylings of brendan schaub are derived from an amalgamation of jokes and mannerisms that he has lifted from his comic friends, a natural instinct within him to bully, and surface level references from pop culture and Adam sandler movies, there is absolutely nothing of substance. If all of that isn't bad enough he seems to get confused on stage, quickly rambling through his jokes in mush mouthed mumble and punctuating them with a more drawn out and enunciated yell seemingly to que the audience of people dumb enough to be a fan of his as to when they should laugh. It's obvious that combat sports and football have rendered brendan incapable of being an effective stand up comedian, broadcaster, and television host, yet he persists. Save your money for the love of god, do not see brendan perform live.

Paying to see Schaub live is a waste of your money

    by Malik B on 3/12/21

Take it from someone who used to listen to Schaub on podcasts and was a fan a one point. I made the mistake of buying tickets to his comedy show and instantly regretted it. The openers were ok but still pretty bad, so I was expecting Brendan to be an improvement but I was totally wrong. Weak set ups, lackluster punchlines, and the jokes he was able to get out coherently were beyond unfunny. Do not pay to see this man do stand up. I took my girlfriend to the show and she broke up with me on the spot. Don't make the same mistake I did and give this unfunny hack any of your money. Wish I could give 0 stars.

    It was ok.

by Abel on 1/15/20The Wilbur - Boston

The show over all was good. I loved both openers. I felt if he didnt have the other 2 comedians with him the show would have not been as good. I thought he would have been funnier. Over all it was ok.

    Great Show, efff the Haters💯

by WongBerg on 1/15/20The Wilbur - Boston

Team Big Brown did their thing in Boston. I read alot of post on Facebook roasting Mr Shaub for bad stand up. Well i enjoyed it. Takes Big Balls to step in the cage, also Big Balls to be on stage like that. Ehsan and Deric were great as well. I look forward to the next time y'all in town again. 🙌🍻
