About

Bon Iver in Concert

With his 2007 debut album, Justin Vernon demonstrated the therapeutic, soul-cleansing properties of isolating yourself from the world in a wooden shed.Ā

Distraught over breakups with both his girlfriend and his band (DeYarmond Edison) while recovering from a bout of mononucleosis, Vernon disappeared into the woods of his native Wisconsin in the dead of winter. He emerged with For Emma, Forever Ago, a disarming set of raw folk-rock confessionals fueled by tense acoustic strums and Vernon's pained, preternaturally soulful croon. (In keeping with the album's frigid recording environment, Vernon adopted the alias Bon Iver ā€” a variation on the French term "bon hiver," or "good winter," which he heard used as a salutation on the 1990s TV show Northern Exposure.)Ā

The album's unvarnished approach made Vernon an anomaly in a North American indie-rock scene otherwise dominated by the maximalist likes of Arcade Fire and Animal Collective, but its intense emotional wallop reverberated far beyond the underground. After his songs permeated the mainstream through placements on shows like Grey's Anatomy and House, Vernon found himself both getting sampled on and providing backing vocals to Kanye West's 2010 magnum opus, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.Ā

That guest appearance transformed Vernon into an unlikely hot property in the hip-hop world, with the singer later turning up on tracks by Travis Scott, Vince Staples, and Lizzo, among others. Between his myriad collaborations and side groups (which include his partnership with The National's Aaron Dessner as Big Red Machine), Bon Iver albums tend to appear only every five years or so. But each one is a major event, signaling a radical change in approach. On 2011's Grammy Awardā€“winning self-titled effort, Vernon's wounded balladry acquired a dreamy, soft-focus splendor, and 2016's 22, A Million recast that velvet-smooth voice against a mutating backdrop of burbling electronics and fractured beats.

The Venue was incredible and Bon Iver NEVER let's you down

by Finn on 4/18/22FPL Solar Amphitheater at Bayfront Park - Miami

Beautiful venue right on the water surrounded by high-rise buildings in the background while listening to Bon Iver was an incredible experience. Plus, the actual workers at the FPL Solar Ampitheatre were all so pleasant and helpful during the entire show. Awesome night!

    Expectations not met at all

by Mpm on 4/18/22FPL Solar Amphitheater at Bayfront Park - Miami

Bon Iver didnā€™t start the concert past 2:30h the time the concert actually started + just sang 1 typical song of his (old ones) new songs are not his style at all. Very disappointed with the concert in general.

Sound was garbage, content not much better

by B. M. on 4/17/22The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

The venue, which usually sounds great, somehow did this guy no favors. The harmonizing was way off. Left after three songs.

    Phenomenal

by Meg on 4/17/22The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

I am an avid concert goer, and Bon Iver made my 10 ten shows easily. Top notch showmanship, very thankful and interactive with the audience. Better than listening to an album, a must see!

    Premier Artist

by BeachBeck13 on 4/17/22The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

Bon Iver truly loves to deliver their best performance every time. First rate musicians, vocals, stage, lighting, etc. If you live Bon Iver youā€™ll live them more after seeing them. If you donā€™t know them you will love them after seeing them. The St. Augustine Amphitheater is also good acoustics in a nice setting. Parking is insufficient for a sell out crowd so get there early or make sure you prepay for parking if you can.

    Alright

by Kaydance on 4/15/22Live Oak Bank Pavilion - Wilmington

He just kept calling us beautiful and didnā€™t interact with the crowd too much. He didnā€™t play most of his well known songs but, the ones he did play sounded great.

    Magical

by Nick on 4/15/22Live Oak Bank Pavilion - Wilmington

Awesome night of chill music with Bon Iver. I wish they would have played a few more of their older songs but other than that it was a great experience at the Live Oak Pavilion. Beautiful weather as well.

I've been to concerts with bigger productions but this might have been the best experience when it comes down to music at a concert.

Great Show. Great Venue. Poor Logistics by Management.

by Appstate on 4/13/22Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park - Atlanta

Great show by Bon Iver. Great venue. Frustrated that I listened to the opening band standing in line trying to get in. One person wanding each and every attendee. Front and back. If security is that crucial, add far more people wanding attendants in.
