About

BOMBINO IN CONCERT:

Bombino is not your typical rock star -- sporting traditional clothing from his native Ifoghas tribe, the Tuareg guitarist tells the story of his people with powerful songs of political uprising and freedom. He has faced a number of political struggles throughout his career, but Bombino never fails to keep the positive vibes flowing at his live shows, promoting peace and unity with his uplifting hits and incredible guitar skills. Whether he's shredding out a lick on his electric or celebrating the spirit of his people, Bombino is sure to deliver one electrifying performance after another on his upcoming tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

In 1990, Omara "Bombino" Moctar and his family fled to Algeria to escape the turmoil in Niger during the height of the Tuareg Rebellion. Finding comfort in music, Bombino taught himself guitar at age ten, often imitating traditional ishumar songs of rebellion. Influenced by Jimi Hendrix, he decided to pursue music full time in 1997, but was forced to live in exile after a government-wide guitar ban was placed on his tribe. While in hiding, he recorded his debut album Agadez, which was released in 2011 and peaked at No. 1 on the iTunes World Chart. The album's success attracted the attention of The Black Keys' frontman Dan Auerbach, who produced Bombino's 2013 album Nomad, another No. 1 hit on both the iTunes World and Billboard World charts. Since then, Bombino has performed at a number of festivals and shared bills with acts like Robert Plant and Gogol Bordello. He will return to the stage once again for a highly anticipated upcoming world tour.

    very good

by MIN on 10/4/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

Say She She opened and was amazing. When Say She She headlines, go see them. Bombino was missing a guitarist because of illness but the music was so full even as a trio, and it was a great show. Wonderful. Go see both whenever you can.

    Bombino is the GOAT

by RJ on 10/4/23The Regent Theater - Los Angeles

This is the second time I've seen/heard Bombino and it was a joy! The venue in LA was pretty small, so I was able to get close to the stage. I'll see Bombino every time he's in LA for as long as he performs.

    Bombino's music is a joy

by Bob on 10/3/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

Great show, great musicianship. Considering one of their guitarists was out sick, and there were only 3 members, it was still an amazing show.

    Bombino is a must seeo

by Golfman on 9/22/23Crystal Ballroom at Somerville Theatre - Somerville

Bombino and his band put on a phenomenal show at The Crystal Ballroom in Somerville this past Tuesday evening. His guitar playing is unrivaled. The New York called Bombino “The Sultan of Shred” for a reason.

    Amazing artist, horrible acoustics

by Coquelicot on 8/22/18L'Astral - Montréal

Bombino is an incredibly skilled guitarist and vocalist. My complaint is with L’Astral for trying to cover up their lack of good acoustics by making the music way too loud. Everyone around me wished the sound wasn’t so harsh so we could enjoy Bombino and his band.

One Last Tooth opened with a great set. Bombino was pure power and energy. Gentle cruising at a high altitude. Great fun.

Too much waiting, too little Bombino

    by Gianna28 on 9/8/14The Sinclair - Cambridge

The show was supposed to start at 8:30, but didn't start until well after 9:30. The opening band, The Shills, were very 'young' musically, and the lead singer's intensity did not make up for the underwhelming performance. After another very lengthy wait, Bombino finally appeared. He's a skilled musician, and two of the 3 other musicians brought passion and energy to their performance as well. The music was great, but the vocals were too muted. We ended up leaving before the end of the show, even though we didn't get to hear "Aminidine". The drummer deserves mention - really terrific!
