So What If It Takes 50 Years?

by Claudacious on 11/8/22Alex Theatre - Glendale

Outstanding professional musicians, with original Big Star drummer, Jody Stephens, collaborated to play the music of this fantastic and overlooked album, fifty years after it’s release, Big Star #1. And all for a worthy charity, The Wild Honey Foundation. Hard to beat that combination! It was an incredible night of music! A great feeling of love prevailed at the Alex Theatre.

by magpie13 on 4/28/16The Fillmore - San Francisco

The stage was filled with percussion set-ups, a drum kit enclosed in pleexiglass and multiple mics. Early on the Kronos Quartet were brought on stage. Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Mitch Easter (R.E.M. producer, Let's Active) and Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo) took control and played a few numbers from the Big Star catalog. Afterwards they took a break and returned with a cover of "Nature Boy". After that they launched into the album. Confession - I never heard "Big Star's Third"/"Sisters". I just liked the covers from 'This Mortal Coil'. The music was beautiful and inspiring. I know I'd heard "Jesus Christ" before but could not tell you where. The finale' included Chris Bell's "I am the Cosmos" which made me happy.
