BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Jonathan Bates began making waves in the Los Angeles music scene in the early '00s with his experimental rock outfit Mellowdrone. The group made their recorded debut in 2006 with the album Box before licensing their music to popular TV shows such as Project Runway, Six Feet Under, and Cane. Despite the band's success, Bates grew tired of group diplomacy and took a hiatus from Mellowdrone to pursue a solo career. Former Nine Inch Nails multi-instrumentalist Alessandro Cortini showed the songwriter how to produce music on a laptop, and by 2010 Bates was creating tracks on his own as Big Black Delta. The new project toured in support of Gary Numan, M83, and Janeís Addiction before dropping a self-titled debut album in 2013. With their highly anticipated sophomore album Tragame Tierra generating big buzz in 2016, Big Black Delta continues to bring their artsy dance parties to audiences around the worldóand the results are always a blast.
