About

Babygirl kicked off 2023 with an inclusion on Consequence's “15 Rising Artists to Watch in 2023” list, with the publication noting that Babygirl is “ready for their biggest year yet.” The Toronto dream-pop duo of Kirsten Clark and Cameron Breithaupt describe their sound as “bubblegum emo,” and their effervescent blend of ’90s nostalgia and “sad bangers” can be heard on critically-praised EPs like 2018’s Lover Fevers, 2021’s Losers Weepers and their 2023 EP Be Still My Heart. Babygirl’s music has been praised by Vice, Stereogum, PAPER, Rolling Stone and more.

Excellent Group HOPEFULLY On The Way Up

by Snowman on 6/18/23The Foundry - Philadelphia

I've been to at least, bare minimum, a thousand concerts. My first was Led Zeppelin in 77. The Good / Great about this show: Babygirl has 25 excellent songs (that I know of) they performed 15 of them. All excellent. They were lively and lovely. The drummer has the coolest set of drums since Jerry Nolan's pink set for the NY Dolls and Heartbreakers. The Not So Good about the show: There was a drummer, guitarist and singer. Kiki played guitar on a few songs. They used backing tracks for keyboards and bass. But, also guitar and vocals. They were both playing and singing, I'm just not sure what the audience was hearing on top was live or recorded. No one sounds that much like their recordings live. There were a few songs like Sore Eyes where she changed the melody a bit. So, that had to be live. They're just too close to the recordings to be that good. I could be wrong. But, I don't think so. The club was not packed. It was mostly empty. That's a shame. These songs are so good they should have easily packed this place. The first time I saw The Go Go's was at NYU. They did not have a record deal, only an obscure single on Stiff "We Got The Beat." This unknown band packed a gymnasium. Babygirl has 25 great songs available online, and didn't bring in a crowd. They need to figure out what went wrong in marketing, and fix it. This group deserves to be playing sold out concerts all over the world with a full live band sleeping in Million Dollar Beds.
