Avi Kaplan is an American singer/songwriter who has won three Grammy Awards as part of the band Pentatonix. In 2017, Kaplan released his solo debut EP Sage and Stone under the name Avriel & the Sequoias. In 2020 Kaplan released his second EP I'll Get By, after signing with Fantasy Records. Kaplan's Floating on a Dream was released in May 2022, just in time for his national tour.
Kaplan was born and raised in Visalia, California. He threw himself into his music at a young age as something positive to focus on. He went on to attend Mt. San Antonio College, where he studied opera and choral studies. In college, he joined the all-male a cappella group Fermata Nowhere. Fermata Nowhere became the first community college group to win the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCAs.)
In 2011, Kaplan joined Pentatonix. The band grew wildly successful, launching Kaplan's career. In order to give back, Kaplan co-founded A Cappella Academy, a camp for teens to learn how to sing in the a cappella style.
Kaplan now resides in Nashville, Tennessee. The singer/songwriter enjoys writing songs on his front porch, as his home is surrounded by forest. He enjoys getting away from it all and connecting with nature as a grounding technique and a way to connect with his creative thoughts and music ideas.
Would recommend to everyone. Avi Kaplan is of course an amazing artist and musician, but this particular venue was outstanding! Word to the wise, came to find out it was a standing only concert, so if that’s an issue, be sure to call ahead. But everything else from sound, to lighting, to the intimate feel of a small concert was ON POINT. If you can go to see this man live, absolutely do it.
Avi, Kaleb, Noah and Dakota were truly incredible. I scream-sang along. It was awesome!! Avi is such a beautiful singer and songwriter. I can't wait till I can see him again🔥🔥🔥
Avi was fantastic and put on a great show. I will never see another show at that venue because for the price of the ticket I expected to have an actual seat to sit in rather than leaning against a wall almost completely out of view of the stage or standing the whole time.
I was immediately captivated with Avi Kaplan last May when I heard him interviewed on NPR's Saturday Edition. I ordered his new CD and bought tickets for the Charlottesville Southern venue when I found that he was performing there in September. The show was exceptional. Avi and his band were electrifying and captivating. Wonderful to see him in a small venue. So talented and his kind and lovely spirit just flows. I will definitely go see him again.
I don't understand why Avi is not at the top of the charts. His music is great and unique. Saw him in Charlottesville in a small venue, it was great. He should be up for some music awards, no other new artist even come close to him
There's something about smaller venues that can never be beat. Avi Kaplan and his opener, Kaleb were both amazing! I haven't been to a show since 2019. And this was the best one to get back into going to them. I hope that he returns to VA in the near future! Highly recommend.
Avi was a joy to see and hear. He really got into the energy of the large crowd a great deal and even mentioned the fact that he could feel it. He greatly exceeded my expectations and I will go see Avi and his band each and every time he comes into town or if I hear about them playing somewhere I may be.
The venue is very nice, new, clean without a bad seat or standing area in the house. Sound is wonderful. Staff great. Security great. Bar great. Cool neighborhood with some actual off street parking. Now for the show. Andrea van Kampen opened . She and the violinest who accompanied her are really good. The whole crowd was engaged. Lots of applause. Kaleb Thomas Jones, Noah Denny, and Dakota Holden walked out on stage and the crowd burst into cheers . When Avi Kaplan walked out the whole crowd simply exploded with applause, his stage presence is stunning. He stared the show and the audience was swept up in it. Singing along, cheering , dancing and clapping , and sometimes bursting into tears from the sheer power of the music. Avi Kaplan is a singer/songwriter who is out of the ordinary and his music is in a catagory all it's own. Every one of the 5 stars is well deserved. I would give them 10 out of 5.
Such a great venue for Avi! He and the band were amazing. Sounds better than the album even.
I’ve listened to Avi’s music a ton on Spotify, but live (as usual) was just a whole new experience. Every single band member is amazing. I don’t want to go on for to long, but I love Avi’s stage presence. His stage presence doesn’t command everyone to look at him, it’s much more humble. It’s like he’s saying “thank you for letting me sing with you, not for you.” It was truly amazing to see this live.
