Annabella Lwin of Bow Wow Wow

by Fiend4Music on 10/12/13DNA Lounge - San Francisco

Annabella Lwin was only 13 years old when she became the lead singer of Bow Wow Wow. Now at age 46 she is touring with a new band performing her own songs as well as Bow Wow Wow hits including “Aphrodisiac”, “C30 C60 C90 Go!”, “Do You Wanna Hold Me?”, “Baby, Oh No”, “W.O.R.K. (N.O. Nah, No No My Daddy Don't)”, and of course “I Want Candy”. Sadly the crowd was so rude, talking throughout her set with one drunk woman constantly screaming “I Want Candy”! Annabella Lwin would shield her eyes from the stage lights and point to certain people in the audience to make eye contact. Those that were paying attention to her performance were right there with her. However, there was one guy in a white jacket that she called out for talking through her entire set. She called him up to the front and asked him his name. He said his name (I forgot what it was) and added that he was a singer in a punk band in San Francisco. I wonder how he would feel if he was on stage and everyone was talking through his entire set. She told the woman screaming “I Want Candy!” that she would perform the song in her own time. Anyone that goes to concerts on a regular basis has to know that she would choose to perform this song last. It is the most popular Bow Wow Wow song and what everyone showed up to hear. You can’t lead with this or put it in the middle of your set unless you want to perform your final songs to an empty venue. Annabella’s voice was not what it used to be. She had said that she had hoped to be back in a larger venue with back up singers so she wouldn’t have to record her background vocals beforehand. I don’t see that happening for her. Despite the fact that her voice was not up to par, she did put on a good performance. She had a lot of energy and danced around the small stage. Those that were not talking through her performance were dancing and having a good time. Overall she was entertaining and a lot of fun to watch.
